Dell Curry is an American former professional basketball player and a sports commentator.

His estimated net worth is around 16.5$ million.

Early life

Dell Curry was born on June 25, 1964 in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He grew up in Gottoes and even as a small child he always enjoyed playing basketball with his school mates. He attended Fort Defiance High School and because of the lack of places to train, he often played basketball in his coach’s barn.

Because of his amazing talent and skills on the court, Dell managed to set the school record for the number of scores in school’s history. Another love of his was baseball, but throughout his childhood, his talent for basketball prevailed.

During college years, Dell played for the Virginia Tech and the team’s first appearance was on the NIT tournament. Even though his team failed to achieve victory, Dell was noticed by many and was named the Metro Conference Player of the Year in 1986.

In his senior year in college, Curry had total of 2,389 points and almost 300 steals. He became one of the most famous students that have ever played there and his name is still often mentioned as an example of a more than talented player.

Professional basketball career

Dell was drafted by the Utah Jazz in 1986 and in the following season he was transferred to Cleveland Cavaliers, after finally settling down with Charlotte Hornets. He stayed on the team for 10 whole seasons and he finished his NBA career in Toronto Raptors in 2002.

During his active playing time on the NBA, Dell became the all-time leading scorer in the history of Charlotte Hornets. Because of his amazing achievements throughout his career, in 2004 he was included in the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame.

After he finished his playing career, Dell decided to focus more on the off-court action. He was named the assistant coach for the Charlotte Bobcats, but declined the position even before he was able to step on his position. The reason is that Dell anted to finally focus more on his family and work less.

In 2009 he found a perfect balance when he was offered a position of a color commentator. He is currently working for the Charlotte Hornets together with Steve Martin, a play-by-play announcer.

In honor of his great achievements, Dell received a Bobby Jones award last year at the NBA All Star Weekend.

Personal life

While he was growing up, Curry loved baseball almost equally as basketball. He even played one season on his college’s baseball team but decided to quit baseball and focus more on his professional basketball career.

Curry is currently living in Charlotte, North Carolina with his wife and three children. He ended up marrying his long-time girlfriend, Sonya Adams, whom he met during his student years at the Virginia Tech. Sonya was then playing volleyball for the college team, and the couple shared mutual love for sports and stayed together ever since.

There was never much controversy about this NBA player, who likes to stay low when his private life is in question. Dell is a family man, and when he is not working as a commentator, he spends his time at his son’s basketball games.

His son Stephen is an NBA player for the Golden State Warriors. Continuing his father’s footsteps, Stephen won the NBA MVP award in 2015. Dell’s other son, Seth, also plays basketball for the Dallas Mavericks and his daughter, just like her mother Sonya, plays basketball for the Elon University.

To give back to the community and help others in need, Curry founded a charity organization called The Dell Curry Foundation that focuses on the problems of the youth. The organization has 5 learning centers that help children with drug abuse advising and that also offers education programs for the ones that can’t afford it or those who come from difficult living conditions.

Dell also has two grandchildren, one from each son, and it seems as though this NBA All-star is now a true family guy.
