She was born in the year 1923, December 29th, in New York City, New York, United States. Her parents were Edward Francois Hutton and Marjorie Merriweather Post.

She did her schooling in Miss Porter’s school and went to college in George Washington University. She dropped out of the university later next year and joined the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Her first performance was at the age of 16. She received the Lifetime achievement award from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in the year 2005 April.

Her first stage performance was in the year 1945 in The Mermaid Singing. She was regarded as the “Hollywood’s new Grace Kelly” in the year 1959.
