Early life
Gillian Leigh Anderson was born on August 9, 1968 in Chicago, Illinois. She has a German, Irish and English ancestry. Gillian is a dauther of a computer analyst Rosemary Alyce and post-production company owner Edward Anderson. Part of her childhood she spent in the London and then moved to Michigan. There she graduated High Middle School.
During her teenage years, Gillian wasn’t a quate nice girl. She has a lot of problems with drugs and dating with a much older man wasn’t strange for her.
However, she calmed down and began to intrest in the theatre. She was a part of a high school community theater. She attended The Theatre School at DePaul University and got Bachelor of Fine Arts.
Personal life
Gillian was married twice. Her first husband was Canadian television art director Clyde Klotz with whom she has daughter Piper Maru. They divorced in 1997.
Her second husband was a documentary filmmaker Julian Ozanne, but she divorced him after a year and a half.
Andreson got two sons, Oscar and Felix, with her ex-boyfriend businessman Mark Griffiths.
She identified herself as a feminist and she is passionate about avid art collection.
Acting Career
Gillian’s acting career started at the theater. She took the first role in a play Absent Friends at the Manhattan Theatre Club. This role brings her Theatre World Award for Best Newcomer. Soon after she played in The Philantropist at the Long Wharf Theatre.
The first movie role she got in the drama film The Turning ( 1992 ), where she played with Karen Alleh and Raymond Barry. She also did a voice cover for the audiobook Exit to Eden.
In 1993 she made a guest appearance in drama series Class of ’96. Thanks to this role she received a script for The X-Files. Gillian was attracted by the personality of Dana Scully character, as she described her as an independent, strong woman. Although, Fox wanted someone more attractive for this role, the producer Cris Carter manage to assign Gillian for this role.
The sci-fi drama The X-Files achieved worldwide popularity. Gillian has won numerous awards for this role. She received Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress, Golden Globe for Best Actress, two SAG Award for Outstanding Performance and Saturn Award for Best Actress. The series was the basis for two movies Fight the Future and I want to believe. In both Gillian co- starting with Duchovny.
During 2000s Anderson took numerous roles in the movies such as The House of Mirth, The Mighty Celt, A Cock and Bull Story, The Last King of Scotland, Straightheads, Sister, Shadow Dancer etc.
Activism and writing
Gillian published two books: A Vision of Fire and A Dream of Ice. She is planning to publish self-help book A Manifesto for Women Everywhere in 2017.
Gillian is also well known for her charity and social activism She is a supporter of LGBT community and Women’s rights.
