Early life

Jami Beth Gertz was born on October 28, 1965  in Chicago, Illinois.

Jami is from Ashkenazi Jewish family. She is a daugter of build contractor Walter Gertz and Sharyn Gertz. Jami grew up with her brothers Scott and Michael in the suburb of Glenview. Jami attendant at Maine Township High School East.

Personal life

Jami is married since 1988 to an American businessman Tony Ressler. They have three sons:  Oliver Jordan, Nicholas Simon, and Theo. Currently, the family lives in the Beverly Park, Los Angeles.

Thanks to their charity work the charity school Alliance Gertz-Ressler High School is named after them.

In 2011 the couple received an honor from Giving Back Fund as the number one donor to charity in 2010.

Acting career

An American television writer and producer Norman Lear discovered young Jami. As a child, she appeared once in NBC series Diff’rent Strokes. She also has a small appearance on the sitcom The Facts of Life in 1979, which was the spin-off the Diff’rent Strokes. Later, she studied drama at New York University.

Jami’s movie debut was a small role in the drama Endless love ( 1981 ), where she portrayed Patty.

The next year she took one of the leading roles in the comedy series Square Pegs, where she co-starred with Sara Jessica Parker and Amy Linker. Jamy played chairperson of the Weemawee Pep Committee Muffy B. Tepperman, whose character is remembered by the sentence: “It behooves me to tell you…”

Jamy continued acting in the comedy genre, this time in the movie Sixteen Candles from 1984. During 1986 she filmed two movies. Sci-fi Solarbabies, where she played an orphan Terra and musical drama Listen to me, where she played underestimated college student Monica Tomanski.

This roles wasn’t that significant as next one in the drama Less Than Zero ( 1987 ), where she had a lead role with Andrew McCarthy. Jami portrayed Blair, drug addicted and promiscuous high school girl.

In the same year, she starred in vampire comedy The Lost Boys, where her partners were Jason Patric, Corey Haim, and Kiefer Sutherland.

She has an acting break and works in Paris as a  perfume designer. When she returned, she gains co-starring role in the apocalyptic movie Twister ( 1996 ), where she played reproductive therapist Melissa. After that, apparently she was offered the role of Rachel  Green, the famous character from the hit series Friends, but Jami declined it.

The role of Kimmy Bishop in the legal series Ally McBeal ( 2000 ) brought her Emy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress.

In 2002 Jami played an American comedian Gilda Radner in the film Gilda Radner: It’s Always Something. In the same year, she started to play in CBS series  Still Standing ( 2002 – 2006 ), as a cool mom of Miller family – Judy Miller. This role is considered as her most successful role in an acting career.

In 2003 Jami co-starred with Shawn Christian in the romantic drama Undercover Christmas, as a threatened waitress Brandi O’Neil. Two years later, she got the lead role in Fighting the Odds: The Marilyn Gambrell Story.

Between 2012 and 2014 Jami played the lead role in sci-fi sitcom The Neighbors as Debbie Weaver, a mother of a human familly who struggles to accept alien neighbors.
