Early life

Jason Jordan Segel was born on January 18, 1980 in Los Angeles, California. Jason comes from Jewish father Alvin Segel and Christian mother Jillian Jordan. He grew up with brother Adam and sister Alison in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood.

As a Jewish, he attended the Hebrew school and had Bar Mitzvah. Later he was on the  Harvard-Westlake High School, where he played for a basketball team.

Personal life

Jason has alcohol issues and went on the rehabilitation. He is alcohol-free since the 2013 year.

As the ordained minister at the Universal Life Church, Jason conducted wedding ceremony on The Tonight Show in 2010.

Acting career

Jason’s career begun at 1998 when he played a small role as watermelon guy in the teen comedy movie Can’t Hardly Wait.

In 1998 he appeared in the comedy SLC Punk, where he played a Mike, the friend of two punks.

The first big role he has in the teen series Freaks and Geeks ( 1999 – 2000), where he played a member of the gang of freaks Nick Andopolis. An interesting fact is that the Jason composed the song which his character sing to the lead series character Lindsay.

Guest appearances, Jason has in the crime drama series CSI: Las Vegas ( 2000 – 2015 ) and sitcom Undeclared ( 2001 ).

In 2002, Jason played college scammer Sam Schecter in the romantic movie Slackers. The movie received mostly negative critics, assigned as just another typical teen movie.

The role that makes Jason worldwide famous is the role in the CBS hits How I Met Your Mother ( 2005 – 2014 ). He co-starred with Josh Radnor, Cobie Smulders, and Neil Patrick Harris during the 9 seasons. Jason portrayed Marshall Eriksen, the best friend of main character Ted Mosby, played by Josh Radnor. The show was very popular and received 18 awards.

Significant appearance Jason has in the romantic comedy Knocked Up ( 2007 ), started by Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl. Jason played one of the main character’s roommates.

Jason was the screenwriter for the romantic comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall ( 2008 ) and he also played the lead role as a composer Peter Bretter who is immensely in love in his girlfriend Sarah ( Kristen Bell ). The movie achieved good box office success and it has been nominated for five awards.

In the next year,  he co-starred with Paul Rudd in the comedy I Love You, Man. This was their third successful collaboration.

For the black comedy Get Him to the Greek ( 2010 ) Jason wrote soundtracks Going Up and Bangers, Beans, and Mash performed by Infant Sorrow. The movie characters were also written by Jason.

In the 3D animated movie Despicable Me ( 2010 ), Jason gives a voice to the character Victor “Vector” Perkins. During the same year, he appears in Gulliver’s Travels as Horatio.

New lead role Jason gain in the comedy Bad teacher ( 2010 ) where he played a gym teacher Russell Gettis in love with the main character Elizabeth Halsey portrayed by Cameron Diaz.

As a fan of Muppets film, he requested Disney authorization to write the film for them. After the request has been approved, Jason co-wrote Muppets Most Wanted ( 2014 ).
