Kim Cattrall is an English-Canadian actress.
Early years
Kim was born on August 21, 1956, in Mossley Hill in Liverpool.
When she was just a few months old, her family migrated to Canada.
She lived there until the age of 11 when she returned to England because of her grandmother’s illness.
While staying there, she spent a lot of time in the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
She returned to Canada at the age of 16.
Career development
Cattrall began her career in 1972, when she decided to visit New York City.
She attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and signed a five-year film deal with director Otto Preminger.
He directed her first movie called „Rosebud“ in 1975.
A year later, Universal Studios bought out her contract and from that moment on,Cattrall was casted in a large spectre of TV shows.
She had a role in „The Rebels“ in 1979, and in „The Bastard“ from 1978.
In 1979 she played the role od Dr. White in „The Incredible Hulk“ and she was soon noticed by film directors.
From 1982 to 1987, she played in: „Turk 182“, „City Limits“, „Hold-Up“, „Porky’s“ and „Police Academy“, but none of these roles are her most popular ones.
Her surely most recognised character is Samantha Jones from HBO’s „Sex and the City“. She started working on this Darren Star’s series in 1997. and also played the same character in the „Sex and the City“ film, released in 2008.
She was nominated for five Emmy awards, four Golden Globe Awards and was ranked number eight in TV Guide’s 50 sexiest stars of all-time list in 2005.
Over the past ten years she appeared in the Disney film“ Ice Princess“, „The Cryptogram“, „The Ghost Writer“ and „Private Lives“.
Her last roles were dedicated to HBO series, but because of her bad case of insomnia she is rumoured to be retiring.
Philantrophic work
Kim joined quite a lot of charities, the most famous being the AIDS LIFE, American Foundation for AIDS Research, Clothes Off Our Back which auctions celebrity clothes and donates the earned money to charities, and Comic Relief, which is a charity that raises money from the general public by actively involving them in fun events.
Personal life
Cattrall has been married three times to: Larry Davis, Andre J. Lyson and Mark Levinson. While together, Levinson and Kim co-wrote a book Satisfaction: „The Art of the Female Orgasm“.
They got divorced in 2004.
Over the years she has been linked with a lot of other actors, musicians and even the former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau.
Kim has both British and Canadian citizenship, and even speaks a bit of German.
During the filming od BBC One’s documentary series „Who Do You Think You Are?“, she discovered that her grandfather abandoned her grandmother and married another woman in Australia, and probably has four more children Kim doesn’t know about.
