Early life

Hrithik Roshan was born on 10 January 1974 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. He belongs to Indo-Aryan ethnic group of Panjabi people. His father is famous Indian producer and director Rakesh Roshan, while his mother is Pinky. Hrithik’s grandfather is also director and producer Jay Om Prakash.

Hrithik attended at Sydenham College, where he earned a bachelor degree in Commercial.

Hrithik was born with one extra thumb, which traumatized his childhood and provokes stammering – a speech disorder that manifests with the inability to flow of the speech without disruption.

Personal life

Hrithik was in the marriage with Indian interior designer Sussanne Khan with whom have two sons Hridhaan and Hrehaan. They separated in 2014.

Hrithik practices Hinduism but claims that he is not religious.

Acting career

His acting career started with a lead role in 2000 romantic movie Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai directed by his father, where he played a double role as Rohit / Raj Chopra. He received praises for his acting and the movie achieved great box office success at the Indian film market. This role also brought him three awards for Best Actor and Best Debut at the  Zee Cine Awards,  IIFA Awards, and Filmfare Awards.

His second movie is Indian crime drama Fiza, where he portrayed terroist Amaan Ikramullah who disappeared in Bombay riots. For this role, Hrithik was nominated for Best Actor at Filmfare Awards. In the same year, he appeared in action movie Mission Kashmir, which also achieved positive critic and box office sucess.

During 2001 he fillmed two movies. The first one is Bollywood movie Yaadein, which received mostly negative critics and the other one is Indian drama Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Ghamm where he has support role as Rohan Raichand. For this role, he was nominated for The Best Supporting Role. The movie achieved to be among the most successful Bollywood films in history.

The 2002 year wasn’t that successful for Roshan. His first movie in  that year romantic drama Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage didn’t manage to touch the wide audience. Another failure on the Indian market was the romantic movie Mujhse Dosti Karoge but achieved international success. Slightly better national success scoring the film Na Tum Jaano Na Hum.

Roshan main breakthrough in career was the lead role in his father’s sci-fi Bollywood movie Koi… Mil Gaya ( 2003 ). Roshan received excellent critics and won 6 awards for Best Actor from 10th IIFA Awards, Star Screen Awards, Apsara Awards and Zee Cine Awards.

After acting break, he appeared in 2006 sci-fi Krrish, where he played a triple role and co-starred with Priyanka Chopra and Naseeruddin Shah. Rashad again won several awards, including  Zee Cine Award,  Star Screen Award, BFJA, and GIFA  for Best Actor.

During 2006 he also filmed action movie Dhoom 2 which brought him third Filmfare Award for Best Actor. The movie kept the record for two years for the highest grossing Indian film of all time.

In 2008 he took the role in historical romance Jodhaa Akbar, where he won another two awards for Best actor from Firmware and Screen Awards. He also received first international award from Golden Minbar International Film Festival in Rusia.

In 2010 he played in multinational romantic movie Kites as a dance teacher Jai. Although, it didn’t achieve major success in India, the film was well received in North Amerika. Roshan filmed the third sequel of the movie in 2013 and received moderate critics.
