Pawn Stars is one of the most popular TV series on History Channel. Until today there has been filmed over 12 seasons since 2009 when it first aired.
The series is filming in Las Vegas in the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop. This shop is owned by the Harrison family.
In 1989 the oldest star in this show, Richard Harrison, also known s the „Old Man“ opened his 24-hour pawn shop. Twenty years later it became a great success. Old Man runs his business with his son Rick Harrison and his grandson Corey Harrison (Big Hoss). The fourth actor and employee is Corey’s friend Vjumlee (Austin Russel).
The series was made by Brent Montgomery of Liftfield Pictures who was genuinely surprised by pawn shops in Las Vegas when he was visiting the city. He searched shops until he came to Gold & Silver Pawn Shap where he met the Harrison family and was sure that they are exactly the characters he needed. Everything after is history.
This show is not interesting only because of items people bring to appraisal but because of the plot going around relationships of involved actors.
Due to their popularity the Harrisons Pawn Shop became a tourist site and grew into an enormous business.
Rick Harrison
Richard Kevin Harrison is the son of his samenamed father a.k.a „The old man“. He was born on March 22, 1965 in Davidson in North Carolina. In 1967, the family relocated to Diego, California. His childhood years were troubled with heavy migrens which led him to become a passionate reader. He suffered from epileptic seizures which made him stay at home. He attended Taft Middle School, but during the tenth grade he left school. Rick developed a great love for books so he is the most interested buyer for them in his shop.
When he was 16, the family relocated again, this time to Las Vegas, Nevada. When he was 17, he got married to his girlfriend Kim, and on April 27th 1983 Corey was born. Two years later they had another son, Adam. After that the marriage broke, and in the near future Rick got married for the second time, to Tracy.
He started his business when he was only 23, partnering with his father. He hasn’t finished high school because he found out making money reselling stuff earns him a lot of money.
Today he is one of the most popular TV reality stars with estimated net worth of $ 13 million.
The Old Man
The Old Man or Richard Benjamin Harrison was born on March 4th 1941.When Harrison was born his family moved to Lexington, North Carolina where he later attended Lexington High School but left it before ending.
His family was poor, so when he was only 14 he drove the school bus to help provide meals for his family. His hard childhood is the reason why he is the most careful in spending money in pawn shop.
When he was 17 he met his future wife JoAnne Rhue and they got married in 1960. She was from a very elite family , and her father was a judge. He served in the U.S. Navy and got to the rank of Petty officer. He and his wife had five children, and but their daughter with Down sindrome died at the age of six.
He is a passionate collector of cars and his estimated net worth is $8 million.
Big Hoss
Corey Harrison (Big Hoss) was born born April 27, 1983 and always going around the shop as a kid. He has two brothers Adam and jake. Because he was so persistant being arround the shop the his father and his grandfather sometimes let him polish jewelry. He is now a manager and takes care of 30 employees and is a very capable businessman. On the start of the show, he weighed over 160kgs and after an gastric operation he lost 50kgs. His estimated net worth is $ 5 milion.
Chumlee
Chumlee Austin Russel got his nickname as a kid. He evem started his own firm after becoming popular. He sells T-shirts of his own designs which can now be bought in Pawn shop. Chumlee had legal problems in 2016 when the police found weapons and drugs at his place.
Russell is also known by the nickname Village Idiot because of his lack of intelligence and stupid remarks he has, but people like them because of that. His estimated net worth is $5 million.
Philantropic work
Rick Harrison partnered up with an organization „Epilepsy Foundation“ due to his heavy struggle with that illness as achild. He raise funds for their research and wants to raise awarness for helping the ones that has this disease.
Chumlee raises funds for several charities by signing autographs and taking pictures with his fans.
