Early Life
Fletcher was born to Walter Fletcher and Ogie Rea Fletcher on June 8, 1959, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, U.S.A. His father was a field worker, and mother was a housewife. Fletcher moved to Compton with his family when he was only one year old. Fletcher went to Lakewood, California junior high school, and spent most of his growing up years there only.
Fletcher’s father purchased a church while they were living in California, and Fletcher along with his mother and Brother Walt used to sing in the choir. Fletcher grew up under the supervision of extremely strict parents and was often subjected to physical abuse by his father.
Although Fletcher says that all his mental strength that he required for bodybuilding came from the pain that he regularly faced while growing up. To stay away from home for a long time Fletcher, at the age of 12, decided to take up a job at a gas station. But his father was not in support of this and as a result, he had to go back to spending his time in the church.
Career
Fletcher joined the U.S. Army in 1977 and was posted in Germany in the initial years.While serving in the army; Fletcher grew an interest in martial arts and started taking karate classes.In 1978, Fletcher earned a black belt. Fletcher retired from the U.S. Army in 1980 and in the same year joined the U.S. Postal Services. Fletcher started powerlifting in the 1983 and used to attend the gym 7 days a week. He was very strict about maintaining his routine.
In the following years, he took part in several bodybuilding competitions and also won much recognition for his strength. Some of the notable titles that he won are – World Championship Bodybuilding, which he won 6 times and the World Strict Curl Champion which he won 3 times.One of Fletcher’s greatest win came in his way in 1995 when he 705 pounds in the Baddest Bench Press in America.
Fletcher started consuming high-calorie fast food, as a means of escaping from his stress; as a result, he was diagnosed with hypertension. Unfortunately, Fletcher had to quit powerlifting in 1997, due to some medical conditions. Fletcher’s acting career began in 2002 when he acted in a movie called Gangster Party and had acted in a number of films since then. Fletcher had to go under the knife for an open heart surgery which became more complicated with his weight. During the operation, he went flat line three times.
After the operation, Fletcher became really weak but started working out slowly and steadily and soon he was back to his fit self. Fletcher started a YouTube channel named C.T. Fletcher Motivation in which he posts fitness and motivation videos. The channel has 1218807 subscribers as of now.
