Early life

Colin James Farrell was born on May 31, 1976 in the capital city of Irealnd, Dublin. He is one of the seven children of Eamon and Rita Farrell. His father and uncles were football players for Irish football club Shamrock Rovers.

From his 10th year, he lived and educated in a suburb of Dublin, Castleknock. Colin attended at St. Brigid’s National School and later at Castleknock College. He also studied at Franciscan College Gormanston in County Meath.

During his college days, he went to audition for Irish boy band Boyzone, but he failed.

After watching sci-fi movie E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Colin enrolled Irish drama school Gaiety School of Acting.

Once, Callin was suspected for attempting murder in Sydney, but after questioning he was released.

Personal life

Colin has a few yearly relationships with actress Amelia Warner, writer Emma Forrest, model Josie Maran, Irish medical student Muireann McDonnell and so on.

During  2002 and 2003 he was dated with model  Kim Bordenave. In 2003 they got son James Padraig Farrell who has  Angelman syndrome.

Another son Henry Tadeusz Farrell, Colin got in a relationship with  Polish actress Alicja Bachleda-Curus.

Colin has the problems with drug addiction and he went on rehabilitation in 2005.

In 2006 it was released his sex tape with his ex-girlfriend model Nicole Narain. Colin suited the Internet Commerce Group company that released the tape.

Acting Career

Colin began his career in 1996 when he gain the role of Danny Byrne in the BBC drama series Ballykissangel. Two years later, he appeared in Irish movie drama Falling For a Dancer, where he portrayed Daniel McCarthey.

His English movie debut was the role in drama The War Zone from 1999.  The next year, Colin co-starred with Kevin Spacey and Linda Fiorentino in crime comedy Ordinary Decent Criminal, but the film received negative reviews from critics.

In the same year, Colin got the main role in war drama Tigerland, where he played authority troublemaker Private Roland Bozz. This movie received positive critics.

Next two roles, in western American Outlaws ( 2001 ) and thriller drama Hart’s War ( 2002 ), was unsuccessful for Colin. Yet, during 2003 he filmed three successful box office movies. In thriller Phone Booth he played arrogant publicist Stuart “Stu” Shepard, for wich he received great critics; In action crime film S.W.A.T., he co-starred with Samuel L. Jackson. The film has mixed critics but achieved good box office success. In spy movie The Recruit, he played with Al Pacino.

In 2002 Colin has supportive role in Tom Cruises sci-fi Minority Report. He played the justice department agent Danny Witwer.

Colin has two main roles in historical epic movies: Alexander The Great ( 2004 ) and The New World ( 2005 ), where he played Captain John Smith.

Colin then appeared in drama Miami Vice ( 2006 ) co-starring with Jamie Foxx and Naomie Harris. He received mixed critics, but movie achieved good box office success.

Colin won first Golden Globe award for Best Actor for his role of a cute hitman Ray in black comedy movie In Bruges ( 2008 ).

In next few years, he took couple main roles in movies such as Cassandra’s Dream,  Triage, London Boulevard, Horrible Bosses,  Fright Night, Total Recall etc.

In 2015 he played the main role in the second session of an HBO hit series True Detective. Colin played detective Ray Velcoro alongside with Rachel McAdams,  Taylor Kitsch and Vince Vaughn.
