Early Life

Harley Edward Streten- Is the name familiar? No, right! And when you know that this is the real name of the most popular Australian singer, Flume, you get all surprised. Flume was born on November 5, 1991.

He was a son of a record producer and filmmaker, Glen Streten. Therefore, the passion for music in him is a quite obvious incident. His mother was a teacher. He had a younger sister with whom he was raised on the Northern Beaches of the beautiful city of Sydney. For primary school, he joined Seaforth Public School and later took admission for high school in St. Augustine’s College Brookvale.

Career

From childhood, Flume was passionate about music. You will be surprised to know that he started creating music when he was only thirteen years old, and the production disc was a cereal box! Talent can’t keep hidden. He recorded his first album and saved it on his laptop. After finishing that, he went on a small-budget London trip. On returning, his debut album became a smashing hit and was on the top of the chart.

Flume found his career into his passion and started producing home music with his initial, ‘HEDS.’ Along with different remixes, he also produced two tracks, ‘Flow’ and ‘Fizz.’ In 2011, he took part in an original artist challenge, managed by Future Classic, an Australian record company. Here he was noticed by the organizers and signed immediately. On this competition, he submitted three tracks, ‘Over You,’ ‘Paper Thin’ and ‘Sleepless.’ The founder and creator of the Future Classic, Nathan Mclay, was impressed with his album ‘Sleepless’ and assisted in releasing his first EP which consisted three songs. Later he became the manager of Harley. This time, he too k the name ‘Flume’ inspired by the Bon Iver song.

In 2012, he released his self-titled album which got favorable reviews. This was the first time, when Flume collaborated with other artists, like Moon Holiday, Chet Faker, Jezzabell Doran, and New York rapper, T.Shirt. This album got so much popularity that it ranked #1 on the Australian iTunes chart. Not only that, but this song secured the second place on the ARIA Albums Chart, only after One Direction’s Take Me Home. Not only from his countrymen but Flume took lesser time to be loved globally as he was appreciated by the American critics as soon as his self-titled studio album was released.

On 2011, Flume formed the duo What So Not, with Sydney DJ and Emoh Instead, the record producer. But, due to their differences, he proclaimed that he had left the project in February 2015. Recently, on early 2016, he released the four-and-a-half-a-minute screening of his second album, ‘Skin.’ In February, the song, ‘Never Be Like You’ that featured Canadian singer and vocals from Kai, became #1 in Australia and also made it Flume’s first chart-topping song. Success came rapidly as in April, Flume came up with his second official single, ‘Say It’ that featured Swedish songwriter and Singer, Tove Lo.
