Early life

Katherine Anne “Katie” Couric was born on January 7, 1957 in  Arlington, Virginia. She is a daughter of ex pr executive at AJC John Martin Couric and writer Elinor Tullie.

Katie attended at Jamestown Elementary and Yorktown High School. She earned bachelor’s degree in American Studies at the University of Virginia.

During her school days she was WAWA  radio intern at Washington.

Personal life

Katie was married to lawyer John Paul Monahan from 1989 to 1998 when he passed away. She has two daughters with him Elinor Tully and Caroline Carrie.

In 2014 she married to businessman John Molner.

Katie is cancer activist, especially for the colon cancer, as her first husband died from it. She creates Confronting Colon Cancer series for wich she earned Peabody Award. Katie also promoted EIFs charitable program Stand Up To Cancer.

Katie is passionate about fitness.

TV Career

The first job she got was the position of an assistant at the ABC News. The following  7 years she also worked as a reporter for WTVJ and as an editor ( occasionally as an on-air reporter too ) at CNN bureaus. Her work for WRC-TV brought her Emmy award and Associated Press award.

In 1989 Katie transferred to NBC News and firstly work as a reporter replacement for Bryant Gumbel and Deborah Norville in The Today Show. As Deborah Norville didn’t return from her maternity leave, Katie becomes co-reporter on April 5, 1991, on Today show. Her attitude durign the talk show was praised by viewers and increased viewership. Katie interviewed during the show many VIP individuals such as Hillary Clinton, Jerry Seinfeld, Bill Clinton, George Bush and so on.

Three years later she also becomes co – anchor for tv newsmagazine Now with Tom Brokaw and Katie Couric, wich later was converted into legal show Dateline.

After fifteen years successful work for NBC News, which makes her one of the top TV news personalities, Katie went to CBS. She became a reporter for the CBS Evening News. The contract with CBS also included her duty to contribute to magazine 60 minutes. The contract worth was $15 million per year, which makes her highest paid tv person. On September 5, 2006, was her solo anchor debut on CBS. This debut watched over 13.5 million people.

In 2008 and 2009 Katie’s CBS news won from RTNDA Edward R. Murrow Awards and she personally received the Emmy Governor’s Award.

On May 19, 2011, Katie delivered the last news for CBC and left them after contract expiration.

Although Katie has outstanding performance as host of CBS News, the CBC didn’t achieve their main goal – to become number 1 in viewership among the other news show. They established the third position.

Katie is an author of best seller child book The Brand New Kid (  2000  ). She wrote another two books in 2004 and 2011.
