Early life

Kiefer William Frederick Dempsey George Rufus Sutherland was born on 21 December 1966 in London. His parents are famous Canadian actors Shirley Douglas and Donald Sutherland. Kiefer has a twin sister Rachel and two paternal half-brothers, Angus and Rossif.

After the divorce of his parents, Kiefer moved to Toronto, where he attended at Crescent Town Elementary School. Later he enrolled two high schools Martingrove Collegiate Institute and St. Andrew’s College.

Personal life

Kiefer was married for three years to Camelia Kath. They have daughter Sarah, which is an actress today.

At the beginning of the 90s, Kiefer dated with Julia Roberts. She canceled their engagement, three days before the wedding.

In 1996 he married the second time to Elizabeth Kelly Winn,  but they separated after 8 years.

Kiefer owns record label Ironwork for wich recorded the groups such as Rocco DeLuca and Lifehouse.

Kiefer spent some time in jail ( 18 days ) because of his arrestment for drunk driving.

Acting career

Kiefer started his acting career in 1983 when he took the role of Bill Costello in the comedy Max Dugan Returns, playing with his father Donald.

The positive critics that he received for the role of a teenage boy Donald Campbell in the Canadian drama The Bay Boy ( 1984 ) allowed him to pursue an acting career in Hollywood.

Two years later, he manages to film the first movie in the United States. It was a drama Stand by Me, where he played gang leader John “Ace” Merrill.

Next year he got the lead real with Meg Rayan in the drama Promised Land. However, the role of a vampire in The Lost Boys makes him reconizible for wider audience.

In 1988 he filmed western Young Boys, co-starring with Emilio Estevez and Charlie Sheen. The next year, he co-starred with Jamie Gerz and Lou Diamond Phillips in action movie Renegades, where Kiefer portrayed an undercover agent Buster McHenry.

At the start of the 90s, Kiefer filmed the sequel to Yung Boys. In 1990 he played with Julia Roberts in sci-fi horror Flatliners. Kiefer played medical student Nelson Wright, who was interested in life after death. He also has the notable role in the comedy Flashback, playing alongside  Dennis Hopper.

In 1992 he appeared as a supporting role in two movies: the horror Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me and legal movie A Few Good Men. Next year he gains leading role in the thriller The Vanishing, where his partner was Jeff Bridges.  However, the movie didn’t receive positive critics. He also starred in The Three Musketeers ( 1993 ), but the movie has negative critics, although the general public perceives movie better.

In 1996 Kiefer filmed three movies. The first one is Freeway, where he played serial killer Bob Wolverton, co-starring with Reese Witherspoon. Then he appeared in thriller Eye for an Eye as a raper and killer Robert Doob. In crime drama A Time to Kill, he played again with his father Donald.

The 2000s are mostly marked with his role of the counter-terrorist agent Jack Bauer on the Fox crime series 24. Thanks to this role he has a few nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and finally he won it in 2006.
