His playing ability can be reflected by stating that Lee is among the third Malaysian professional player who had been rated as the leader for consecutive 199 weeks in the world. In 2008 he began his Olympic excavation with a silver medal. He continued the same in the following two Olympics of 2012 and 2016 by bagging medals in both. Early life

In Bagan Serai, Perak, Malaysia Lee Chong Wei was born on 21st October, 1982. From the early childhood he had a tremendous inclination towards badminton and started learning the sport seriously when he attained 11 years.

It was a regular practice for him to go for the training after returning from the school. The efficiency of Lee impressed Misubun Sidek and was selected for the national team when he was just seventeen years old.

Career

It took little time for Lee to establish him as a winner in the badminton circuit. He got the real initiation and momentum after getting the Malaysia Open in 2004. In the same year he proved his dominance over the game in the Chinese Open. Quite evidently he got a green signal from the selector to make his debut appearance in the Olympic in 2004 but require some more time to mark his foothold in the game.

In the next year Lee retained his Malaysian Open title and with it he won the Denmark Open. In the same year 2005 in the World Championship he got the bronze medal. Gradually his dominance in the game got a higher control in major tournaments and championships. For the third consecutive year he retained the Malaysian Open title.

The wings were spreading wide as he emerge winner in the Asian Badminton Championship and also surpassed all to be the winner in the Swiss Open. Then in 2006 Lee further enhanced his glory by taking hold of gold medal in his own singles and mixed team of the Commonwealth Games. During this time Lee got the top ranking in the world of badminton from the Badminton World Federation.

In 2007 Lee continued his winning string in the Philippines Open, the Japan Open, Indonesian Open, Sudirman Cup and French Open. His dominance in the Malaysian Open was proved again in 2008 for the fourth time. In 2008 his mastery is recorded with 11 consecutive win in the National Badminton Grand Prix Final. He conquered the Super Series Masters Finals in the same year.

In 2009 he got better of his Chinese arch rival Lin Dan in the home away surface for the first time. Lee had made a habit of winning the Malaysian Open. In the same year Lee mark his dominance in the Indonesian Open, the Macau Open, the Hong Kong Open and last but not the least by winning the gold in the Malaysian Open Grand Prix. Quite normally he won the prestigious All England Open.

In 2010 he bagged gold in the Commonwealth Games and in the Asian Games he managed a silver medal. On his way he took up his second Hong Kong Open and third Super Series Master Final both consecutively. In 2011 he got All England Open for the third time and emerged as the first non-Indonesian to be the winner for third consecutive year. The Olympic silver came in 2012.

He was still holding his supremacy in the Malaysian Open as he won it in 2013 and 2014. 2015 saw his preeminence in US Open, French Open and Canada Open. In 2016 Rio Olympic he reached the final but remained away from the gold.

Personal life

In the life doubles he got adherence of Wong Mew Choo who happened to be his team mate. The sentiments separated the due in 2009 but their dependency on each other reunited them again in 2012 when they decided to marry.

The couple was blessed with two children Kingston and Terrance. In 2012 Lee came with an autobiography titles ‘Dare to be a Champion’.
