Her father Alleyne worked as a Planner as well as served as surveyor. He functioned as Mayor of Bath in the year 1952. He was involved in establishing the University of Bath located in Calverton Down. At the age of 13, she was diagnosed of poliomyelitis and she had to spend three months in the hospital.
Her first job was in the Electricity board showroom in Bath. She later joined Dutch Dairy Bureau and later joined Benson’s as a recipe tester. It was during this time, she wrote her first book. In the year 1966, she took up the role of food editor for the magazine named Housewife.
She also served as food editor for Ideal Home magazine. Together with her daughter she also introduced to the market her signature food products.
For her culinary arts, she was appointed as Commander of Order of the British Empire in the year 2012.
