Sterling Marlin is quite popular in the racing world because of his extreme driving techniques to speed past other racers in a major championship. The famous racer had made an impressive career in the NASCAR Championship.

In 1983 while driving for Roger Hamby, he won the much coveted “Rookie of the Year.” Before retiring in 2010, the adroit racer has gathered quite a huge sum of money from racing and another source of earning. Early life

Sterling was born on the 30th June 1957 in Columbia, Tennessee, United States of America. His father had also earned huge reputation in the NASCAR and was known by the name Coo Coo Marlin.

He got enrolled in the Spring Hill High School. Like any other normal boy, during his early schooling days, he was a keen player in basketball and football.

After completing his schooling education, Sterling got interested in the collection of artifacts of the civil wars. But as he grew younger started taking an interest in his father’s racing world.

His father was injured, and hence he tried to fill in his father’s absence in the competition at the age of 19. In this way in 1976 at the Nashville Highway Sterling made his debut in NASCAR.

Career

In the year, 1983, Marlin was selected by Roger Hamby for driving his No. 17 Hesco Exhaust that was sponsored by the Chevrolet. He was successful enough to finish in the 10th place at Dover International Speedway and also achieved the award “Rookie of the Year.” In spite of finishing in the 15th position playing for Daytona 500 in the year 1984, Martin had to spend a long time racing under the Sadler Racing Brothers.

He was fortunate enough to ones compete with Jimmy Means and the famous Dick Bahre. He made eight starts in total and finished at the 12th position driver for the Talladega Superspeedway.

While playing under the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, his best finish was noted down at the 3rd position.  His first race was in the year 1976 in Music City  USA 420 in Nashville and his last race being in the year 1994 Daytona 500.  He won in the series of 2002 Carolina Dodge Dealers 400 for the last time in Darlington.

His next initiation was in NASCAR Xfinity Series, where he expanded his career to the pinnacle. His best finish in this series was in the 29th position, and his first race was in the year 1986 Winn 1Dixie 300 held in Charlotte. His last win was in the year 2003 Pepsi 300 held in Nashville.

He won in the series by driving in the event of 1990, All-Pro 300 and for the last time he drove in 2000, Cheez-It 250 held at Bristol.

Marlin announced his days of retirement from the world of car racing in the year 2010, March 18.  He owned the dealership of Chevrolet in the famous Ashland City, in Tennessee and also withheld the dodge dealership in Dickson, Tennessee.

Personal life

Marlin is married to Paula Marlin and the couple in the passage of time became parents of two children. Sutherlin is their daughter, and they named their son as Steadman.

Unfortunately, the racer who whipped past many champions on his way is suffering from Parkinsonism.
