Early life

Tommy Lee Jones was born on September 15, 1946 in San Saba, Texas. He is the son of police officer Lucille Marie and field worker Clyde C. Jones.

Tommy grew up in Midland, Texas, where he attended Midland Lee High School. After receiving a scholarship, he graduated in Dallas at The St. Mark’s School of Texas.

Later, he enrolled Harvard College, where he played for The Harvard Crimson football team as an offensive guard. In 1969, Tommy earned Bachelor of Arts in English literature.

Personal life

Tommy was married three times. From 1971 to 1978 he was married to Katherine “Kate” Lardner. In 1981 he married to Kimberlea Cloughley with whom he has two kids son Austin Leonard and daughter, Victoria Kafka. They divorced in 1996. From 2001 he is in marriage with Dawn Laurel.

Tommy is a passionate polo player and he is a supporter of Polo Training Foundation. He also owns a house in polo club in Buenos Aires.

Tommy currently resides in Terrell Hills, Texas.

Acting career

Tommy begins his acting career on Broadway. In 1969 he has debuted at play A Patriot For Me. Next year he has film role debut as Hank Simpson in the romantic movie Love Story.

With Sid Ceaser and  Carol Channing, he played at the Broadhurst Theatre the play Four in a Garden ( 1971 ). Next four years he played in soap opera One Life to Live as Mark Toland.

Until the begin of the 80s, Tommy took several movie roles. In 1976 he played in Jackson County Jail. In 1977 he filmed two movies. One is drama Rolling Thunder, where he co-starred with William Devane. Second is biography The Amazing Howard Hughes.

Thanks to the role of the country musician Doolittle Lynn in the film Coal Miner’s Daughter ( 1980) Tommy earned golden globe nomination for Best Actor. In 1981 he starred with Sally Field in romantic comedy Back Roads.

Tommy won first Emy award for Best actor in the movie The Executioner’s Song ( 1983 ), where he portrayed American criminal Gary Gilmore. In the same year, he took the lead role in the Savage Islands as ship’s captain  Henry “Bully” Hayes.

Playing in the western Lonesome Dove ( 1989 ), Tommy bought two nominations for Emmy ‘s Outstanding Lead Actor and Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor.

In 1993 he filmed action thriller box-office hit The Fugitive, co-starring with Harison Ford. This role brought him three awards ( MTV, Academy, and Golden Globe ) for Best Actor. In 1994 he took the lead  role in another biographical movie  Cobb, where he portrayed baseball player Ty Cobb. One year later, he played in another commercial successful movie Batman Forever with Val Kilmer, which brought him MTV nomination for Best Villian.

The role that brought him wide popularity is the lead role of Agent Kevin Brown in sci-fi hit Man in Black, where he partners were Will Smith. For the playiyng humorless agent, Tommy received two nominations forBest Actor and Best On-Screen Duo from Satelite Awards and MTV awards.

Another Oscar-nominated role was in the legal thriller JFK where he played with Kevin Costner and Kavin Bacon. He portrayed New Orleans businessman Clay Shaw.

During 2000s Tommy won four awards. He earned Satelite Awards for Best Actor in the neo-western movie The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada,  where he played rancher Peter Perkins. The next year, in 2006, he won Gotham Award for Best Ensemble Cast in the comedy A Prairie Home Companion. Numerous nominations and one win of Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance brought him the role in the historical drama Lincoln.
