Born on 16 July 1981, in Marion in Indiana, Randolph went to the Marion High School. He was trained under Moe Smedley.
Being a sophomore, Randolph headed the team of Marion Giants making its way to the 1998 Indiana game of the Class 4A Championship.
Being a senior, Randolph captained his school for the state level championship and won the 7th basketball championship match of the state.
Indiana’s ‘Mr. Basketball’ title was won by Jared Jeffries, a player from the Giants beat team and hence Zachary claimed the second place as per the voting.
Later Jared becomes Randolph’s teammate for their team of the New York Knicks.
During his stay in Michigan State University, Randolph played basketball there and his coach was Tom Izzo.
He has colleagues in Michigan State University were Charlie Bell and Jason Richardson.
