Aishwarya Rai is an Indian model, actress and a beauty pageant winner.
Early life
She was born on November 1, 1973. in Mangaluru, Karnataka, India.
Her family moved to Mumbai where she attended the Arya Vidya Mandir High School.
She went to Jai Hind College for one year and then moved to DG Ruparel College in Mantunga.
She trained in classical dancing and music while she was a teenager.
At first she wanted to have a career in medicine but then enrolled a Rachana Sansad Academy of Architecture to become an architect.
Later on she understood that it wasn’t her dream so she left her education and became a model.
Career development
In 1991. she appeared in the American edition of Vogue and two years later she was recognized everywhere for her popular Pepsi commercial.
She was crowned Miss World 1994. and after that she started getting film roles.
Her film debut was in 1997. with the film named “Iruvar”: it was a political drama which was a great success.
In 1998. she was praised for her role in Tamil’s romantic drama “Jeans”.
The turning point of her career was in 1999. In the drama “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam” where she had a leading role and with this came her first national nomination for Best Actress.
Her role in ” Kandukondain Kandukondain” from 2000. earned her great critics and reviews.
Her next nomination was for Best Supoorting Actress in a romance “Mohabbatein”.
In the following years she filmed dozens of movies, some successfull, some rated under-preformed. One of them called “Sarkar Raj” was filmed with her three family members : her husband Abhishek Bachchan and her father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan.
Aishwary is a brand ambassador of the gratest world brands such as Armani, Cavalli, Louis Vuitton and Loreal.
She is very known for her long cooperation with a watch magnat Longines.
Personal life
She dated a Bollywood actor Salman Khan in 1999. till 2002.
They broke up because she was disappointed of his public and private behaviour.
While filming “Dhoom 2” she fell in love with Abhishek Bachchan and they got married in 2007. according to Hindu rituals of the Bunts.
They are both deeply religious and devoted to their families.
Aiswarya Rai lives with her in laws in Jalsa in Mumbai and in 2011. she gave birth to a baby girl.
Philantropic work
She is an Ambassador for “Pulse Polio” to eradicate polio in her country India.
The Bachchan family is funding the construction of a school for underpriviliged girls in Uttar Pradesh. She supports PETA India , Smile train and Eye Bank Association.
She has her own foundation named Aishwarya Rai Foundation to help needy people in India.
She was appointed for the Goodwill Ambassador for UNAIDS, The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS which is trying to eradicate HIV infections.
