Alicia Sacramone is a known former artistic gymnast from USA who became a national icon due to dozens of medals she won through her career.

Early years

She was born as Alicia Marie Sacramone Quinn on December 3, 1987 in Boston, Massachusetts in United States. Her father Fred is an orthodontist and her mother Gail is a hairstylist.

Alicia has one brother, an older brother Jonathan.

She was very young when she started to be interested in dancing so her mother enrolled her into dance studies at the age of five.

At the age of 8, she turned to gymnastics. She was a member of “Gymnastics and More”, owned by Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. She had a great cooperation with them and they were coaching her until her retirement.

Career development

She was 14 when she started competing in the proffessional level. She became the national team member one year later, in 2003.

She was a participant st the 2003 National Gymnastics Championship and she gained 14th place, including a bronze on the floor. That made it possible for her to join the national team.

In 2004 she was a part of the U.S. Team which won a gold medal at the Pacific Alliance. She had great vault exercise and won a title for it.

Newspapers became interested in her. She joined the team at the 2004 Athens Olympics but she was only 19th overall. She was also injured and hurf her back and therefore she had to recover at home and at therapies.

In late 2004 she won the first place at the World Cup Finals in England.

2005 began good for her, winning a lot of individual titles and she was again named to the American team. The team was sent to the 2005 World Championship in Melbourne in Australia. She was very successful there: a gold medal for the floor exercise and 3rd on vault. She won the World Cup in Belgium and the finals in France. She gained a silver medal for U.S. Team in 2006 World Chamoionships in Denmark. She also defended both of her titles: vault and floor in U.S. Nationals.

In 2006 she became a student at Brown University and became a member of the school’s team. It was very hard for her to combine umiversity studies with the strict schedule at Brestyan’s.

She broke several Brown’s records, and named the Rookie of the Year. She joined U.S.Team for the World Chamoionships in Germany in 2007.

Her team won a gold medal, with China and Romania on 2nd and 3rd place.

She turned pro in 2007, signing a contract with an agency and started preapering for 2008 Olympics.

She volunteered as assistant coach on Brown University and continued studying her favorite subject – sociology.

Alicia spent her 2008 semester preparing for the Olympics. She joined the team for 2008 Bejing Olympics. The team won silver medal but she was blamed for not winning the gold by the press and media.

She retired in 2009, but returned to training later. In 2010 Covergirl Classic she won the 1st place. At the World Championship the same year, she won a gold medal.

She signed a contract with “Under Armour”, an American company which manufactures sportswear.

She was very successfull on all of the next competitions: National Championships in Minnesota, Covergirl Classic in Chicago.

She tore ber Achilles tendon in training so she couldn’t compete for the World Championships in Tokyo with her team. She was still given a gold medal and this medal made her the most awarded American Female Gymnast ever.

In 2012 she wasn’t named to the Olympic team and a little while after she announced her retirement.

In 2008 she became a Covergirl spokesmodel. She appeared in a Gatorade commercial in 2009.

In 2009 she transferred from Brown University.

In 2016 she was inducted in USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame.

She was also inducted into Italian American Hall of Fame since her parents were of Italian descent.

Personal life

She dated the former NFLcplayer Brady Quinn. They got engsged in 2013 and were married in 2014.

She gave birth to their first child named Sloan Scott Quinn.
