Bil Maher is an American stand-up comedian, TV show host and writer.
He is best known for his show Real time with Bill Maher and his estimated net worth is around 23$ million.
Early life
William Maher was born on January 20, 1956 in New York. It was no wonder that Bill will one day become a TV personality, because his father William Aloysius was a radio host. So, the talent for show business was in his blood. His mother worked in a hospital and Bill had one sister.
His mother was Jewish and when Bill was a teenager, his father decided to not take his children to church services because of their opinion about birth control and Judaism.
He and his sister grew up in New Jersey where Bill finished his high school. He later graduated from Cornell University in History and English. He is best known for his, somewhat, controversial statements and one of them was that he paid his college by selling pot.
He then decided to pursue his career in comedy which got him to the fame he has today.
Comedy career
Bill Maher decided to pursue career in stand-up comedy after finishing college. He did gigs and performed in clubs in the beginning. He then got his first big chance when he hosted Catch a rising star comedy club.
He also appeared on several TV shows and TV series but remained in the field of comedy.
TV host career
Comedy Central gave Bill his first real chance to show what he is all about, in a show called Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher. The show was something special.
It offered a different kind of humor than we were used to. He talked about current situation in politics from a comedian’s point of view. Bill welcomed people from various fields who talked about the current situation in economics, politics, society and every other burning topic.
The discussions would often heat up which offered the viewers a chance to look at things from different prospective. Due to the originality of the show and Bill’s extreme talent, show began lining up the rewards. The show was on from 1993 to 2002.
In 2003 Bill decided to produce, write and host his new show on HBO. HBO channel gave him the liberty of speech he needed to present his comedy in his full glory. The show had a similar concept as his previous one. Bill held his monologue at the beginning of the show and proceeded to welcome his guests with whom he later discussed burning topics.
The show was pretty explicit and viewers certainly had something to say about it. They either hated it or loved it and there was nothing in between. Show is still on air which only shows exceptional interest for it. We will certainly see more of Bill’s extraordinary comedic talent, on air for years.
Besides TV hosting, Bill is also a political commentator and a producer. He is still devoted to his first love stand-up comedy. He is also a big supporter of PETA and likes to stay un-labeled when political parties are involved because he wants to stay objective.
Private life
It seems that Bill enjoys his work just enough so that he doesn’t need a life partner. He never got married and it is likely that he never will.
Throughout the years he has dated a lot of women but none of them seemed to be able to tame this bachelor.
Bill had a pretty rough experience after one his break ups, where his ex-girlfriend Coco Johnsen sued him because of many insults he directed her way during the relationship and because he didn’t fulfill his promise that he will take care of her children and her financially.
Bill’s attorneys won the case and he denied all charges.
His most recent relationship is with Anjulie Persaud and the couple has been dating since 2014.
Bill is a strong supporter of cannabis legalization and prostitution legalization. He is an agnostic and an atheist. He seems to stay away from any label. He is also against current poor health care and is in favor of global warnings.
