Joe is an English singer and songwriter who rose to fame after winning the prestigious title of the sixth series of the show x-factor in the year 2009.

His first single “Climb” reached number one in the UK and Irish single charts. If statistics till 2014 are to be trusted, Joe has sold over two million copies till date.

Born on June 16, 1991 in South Shields, England to Jim and Eileen (née Joyce) McElderry, Joe grew up in a small flat located in Tyneside.

Joe attended Harton Technology College which is located in Lisle Road, South Shields prior to  joining South Tyneside College to pursue his AS level school qualifications, then later he enrolled in Newcastle College to study BTEC national diploma in performing arts.

Joe auditioned for the X-factor for the first time in the year 2007 where he made it through the boot camp, but then backed out on his own will when he considered himself too young in comparison to the other contestants.

He came out clean with his sexuality as gay in the year 2010 through an interview after he came out to his mother.
