Kell Brook is a very known professional boxer from Great Britain who owns the IBF Welterweight title for three years (2014-2017). His nicknames are Special K and The Special One because he is one of the most successful boxers ever in Great Britain.

Early years

He was born as Ezekiel Brook on May 3, 1986, in Sheffield in Yorkshire in England. His mother is Julie Thompson.

His real father is Jamaican, and Kell never met him. They aren’t in contact, and it seems that they never tried to find each other.

His stepfather Terry Thompson introduced him to boxing. He was only twelve when Brendan Ingle, a famous Irish boxing trainer, took him for his first fight as an amateur.

He always got along with his stepfather very well and liked going to boxing matches with him. Terry is his manager and helps him to pick fights.

Career development

He was a great amateur boxer and ended up his amateur career with a great number of 31 won out of 36 fights. He won the title of Amateur Boxing Association of England twice and won a Gold medal in the 4 Nations Cup. This is one of the highest achievements for a boxer of his age.

He was very eager to join the world of professional boxing, not only because of the money but because he aspired to become the most famous British boxer.

After finishing his amateur career, he turned to professional boxing with a fight against Peter Buckley in 2004. He won the fight in difficult six rounds.

After he gathered up 16 winnings, he received an opportunity to fight for the title in British Championship in 2008. He fought against Barrie Jones from Wales and won the belt in 7 rounds.

At the end of the same year, he had to face Kelvin Hall, a former champion and he won by TKO (Technical Knock-Out) very fast. Out of his 37 winnings, he won 25 matches by TKO.

In 2009 he fought against Stuart Elwell and won in the 2nd round by a referee decision. He defended his title in a match against Michael Lomax the same year.

In 2009 he received a title of “Young British Boxer of The Year” which is one of the most prestigious awards in British boxing.

In 2010 he fought against Krzysztof Bienias from Poland (who won in his last seventeen fights), but he won the fight in the 6th round.

In 2010 he finally met his biggest opponent, Michael Jennings, who was the only man who could defeat him, in Brook’s opinion. The fight was placed in Birmingham and was sold out. Many people weren’t able to get the tickets for this fight.

Kell won the fight in the 5th round although the fight was stopped when he received a bad cut on his forehead. This was his fourth defense of his title for a British Championship.

He also defended his inter-continental title after the fight against Phillip Kotey from Gana.

In spring 2011 he decided to join Matchroom Sports Organization which is a respectable sport event promotions company founded by Harry Bearn.

His promoter is Barry’s son Eddie Hearn and he took care of everything, from travel arrangements to managing matches and his earnings.

His trainer is Dominic Ingle, one of the best trainers in England, and he claims to enjoy working with Kell because nothing is hard for him.

In 2012 Kell already had a run of 26 wins, and his 27th was against Matthew Hatton, a former European welterweight champion. This gained Brook an IBF International Welterweight title.

The same year he faced an American boxer named Carson Jones, and it was live on Sky Sports 1. He won the fight, but it was very difficult for him after Carson broke his nose in the 8th round.

He became the mandatory challenger after he won the fight against Hector Salvidia in August 2012.

After winning Carson James in July 2013  that brought him to a high score of 30-0. After that, he faced a tough boxer called Vyacheslav Senchenko in 2013 and won him by technical knockout.

He won a match against Jo Jo Don at the end of 2014 and defended his IBF title.

He successfully defended his IBF title for the second time after the match against another British boxer named Frankie Gavin.

Kell became the world champion after defeating Shawn Porter the same year, and this was his third victorious defense of the title.

At the beginning of 2016, he defended his title for the third time, against Kevin Bizier and won.

In a match that was held in May 2017, he lost a fight against Errol Spence in the 11th round. Although he lost the match, he gained £3 million which is a really impressive amount.

Personal life

As for his personal life, he is married to Lindsey Myers. She is a very beautiful woman who stands by his side on his every match. She doesn’t work, but she raises their children.

In 2014, during his vacation in Tenerife, where he came with his highly pregnant woman, he was stabbed in the leg in an unprovoked attack. The injury was severe and caused by machete. He was recovering for a long time.

Kell and Lindsey have two daughters. One of them is called Navaeh. She is the oldest daughter.
