Kerser is a known Australian rapper mostly known for his big hit called “Next Step”. He wasn’t received well in the public at the beginning of his career because of his egoistic lyrics but soon he became the most popular Australian rapper.

Early years

He was born as Scott Barrow in Campbelltown in Australia on August 21, 1987. His stage name which brought him recognition is Emcee Kerser or just simply – Kerser.

His older brother was a big fan of hip-hop and often listened it at home and with his friends so Kerser started to listen to the same music himself.

He was very young when he started rapping (and not only other rapper’s hits but his own lyrics), and by the time he was eleven he has already been rapping side by side to his older brother.

His biggest idol was Tupac, but he was also a fan of Dr.Dre and other old school rappers like Eminem.

Kerser is widely popular for his great abilities in battle rapping in his home country Australia. He often appears in the following battle circuits: “Got Beef”, “Grind Time Now”, “Now Australia” and “Real Talk Battle League”.

He was unbeaten for a period of almost two years which is a very long time in battle rapping and a very huge success for him.

His biggest rival and his opponent is a rapper called 360 who already released four albums. It seems like the two of them are competetive towards each other.

He had a greatly publicised battle against 360 in 2012 but there where no official winners in the battle.

He has a very long rivalry with this rapper called 360. In 2013,  360 released a diss track against Kerser called “30 Minutes Tops” which commented Kerser’s rapping abbilities and the length of his battling skills.

Career development

In 2009 he released his first mixtape called “Straight Out Tha Gutter”. It was followed by 2010 “Down the Drain”.

His debut album titled “The Nebulizer” came in 2012 and was produced by Nebs, a known beatmaker and a producer. He was involved in the production of all Kerser’s songs and even rapped in a few.

He became more popular after he released a track from this album called “Kerser is the sickest”.

He released his new, second album at the end of 2012 and it went high on ARIA Album Charts.

After the release he went on a tour to promote this album. The tour was a grear success and helped in selling his albums and creating a bigger fanbase.

Kerser is the most viewed artist from Australia on YouTube topping even Iggy Azalea. This is even more shocking if you know the fact that he doesn’t have any marketing and his songs were banned frim the radio due to the lyrics.

His first singles weren’t well received due to his lyrics which many considered egoistic and due to his hardcore realism in verses but he soon found a huge fanbase and now has over 300 000 followers.

In 2013 he signed a contract with “Obese Records”, the largest Australian independent label.

He released his new single “We Here Now” in the same year. This single led to his national tour and his performances at “Breath of Life” festival.

He also released his DVD from National Tour ehich peaked No.1. On ARIA DVD chart. The DVD was amongst the fastest selling in the week of it’s release and it was produced by Full Clip.

His new album “S.C.O.T.” featured his longtime companion Nebs and Jace Excel. He started his new Australian Tour to supporg this album.

Kerser now receives endorsement by many known fashion labels such as Dissizit, Algierz and Burn. This is a big thing for a rapper like him since that means he is very well accepted amongst the industry.

In the spring of the same year he released his new hit single ‘We Here Now’ made in collaboration with his brother Rates, who is also a rapper.

The single became so popular that it made him go on the regional “We Here Now”  Tour.

In 2014 he released his fourth album called “King” which was also produced by Nebs.

After his raising success which couldn’t be ignored his singles have finally started playing on the radio.

Kerser was invited on Channel 10’s  program called “Studio 10” where he spoke how his lyricd are often taken out of context and staged other than what they mean.

The change in his fifth album “Next Step” was the fact that it was released under his own ABK Records label, distributed by Warner. It was produced by Sinima Beats this time.

In 2016 he released a new album called “Tradition” and in 2017 “Engraved in the Game” come out.

The album was followed with his 2018 National Tour. It was made in collaboration with a German beat maker Allroundo.

He has over 300 000 fans on Facebook and over 80 million YouTube views which is really rare for a rapper who has no marketing: he doesn’t promote himself through media and newspapers as much as his fellow artists.

He is known for his monthly videos he still releases to his fans. He has over 80 million views on YouTube and almost 300,000 followers on Facebook. He has reached almost 100,000 followers on Instagram. The number of his followers is growing daily and he is very known amongst his nation.

Personal life

There was a drive-by shooting which targeted Kerser but he wasn’t injured in it. He also receives threats and stuff over the social media. Some believe that this drive-by shooting, his battle with 360 were all publicity stunts but no matter that – he is a known persona now.

He keeps his personal life well hidden from the media but there are rumours that he is in a relationship with a mysterious woman for ten years now. He decided not to tell anything about is this true or not, and he also decided that he will deny all rumours

In his 5th album “Next Step” he started changing his lyrics from “drugs and partying” to “say no to drugs” so we may say that he grew as a person. He was also critised about this so it may also be a reason why he is doing this.

His brother is always by his side and he works alongside him on their ABK Records. They are very close and Scott says that they share everything with each other. Since they are both rappers it is nice that they aren’t in any conflict.
