Kirk Herbstreit is a football analyst, commentator and former football and baseball player. Currently, Kirk works as a football analyst for the show ‘College GameDay’ which airs on the channel ESPN.

He also appears as a colour commentator on various football games held in colleges which air on the channel ESPN as well as ABC networks. While studying in college, Kirk used to play as a quarterback in the State football team Ohio.

Early Life

Kirk was born on August 19, 1969 located in the city of Centerville, Ohio. Kirk’s father’s name is Jim Herbstreit, who was also a college football player and his mother’s name Evelyn Herbstreit, who was a homemaker.

All of Kirk’s inspiration and desires towards football came from seeing his father. His father was an accomplished college football player and he had many honours to his name. Kirk was thoroughly inspired by his father’s success in football.

Kirk went to Centreville High School located in Centerville Ohio. While in high school, Kirk played for the quarterback for his high school football team. For his excellent performance, Kirk received the ‘Gatorade Player of the Year’ award. As a teenager, Kirk also played baseball and he also excelled in that.

After graduating from Centreville High School, Kirk went to study business administration at Ohio State University and graduated from there in the year 1992.

Career

In college also, Kirk played for his college football team from the year 1989 to year 1993 as a quarterback. In his senior year in college, Kirk was given the chance to lead the team. In the same year, Kirk was made the co-captain of the team and also voted as the team MVP. He also acquired the title of four-time letter winner.

Kirk’s father was also a co-captain of the Ohio State team in the year 1960. When Kirk was made co-captain in year 1992, they became another father-son duo who were both co-captain of the team. That year, Kirk passed for 1904 yards that time which included four 200+ yard games. In the year 1992, Kirk created an Ohio state record to pass the completions with 28 passes all for 271 yards in a game in contradiction of Michigan. The game ended in a tie with a score of 13-13. The record was broken in 2006 by Troy Smith.

After graduating from college in 1993, Kirk did not pursue football anymore. Nor did he use his business administration degree Kirk decided to make a career in broadcasting.

Kirk started working for ESPN, in a show called ‘College GameDay’, in which he discussed different college games and players alongside Lee Corso, Rece Davis, and Desmond Howard. They also visit different colleges across the country every Saturday. In 1997, Kirk was chosen for Sports Emmy Award in the category of ‘television’s top-studio analyst’.

Kirk also works with ABC Sports in the post of analyst for a college football primetime show. He appears along with Chris Fowler in this show. Kirk also writes a column for various magazines and is a regular contributor in espn.com as well as ESPN The Magazine. Kirk contributed in a weekly in-season column for The Sporting News in 1997. Previously, Kirk was seen as a colour commentator on Thursday night games for the channel ESPN. Kirk also works for the 97.1 The Fan, which is a Columbus based radio station and is also an affiliate of ESPN Radio.

Kirk was seen as a panellist along with Michael Wilbon and Keyshawn Johnson on the show ‘Who’s Now’. Kirk started hosting a weekly college radio programme for 97.1 The Fan in July 2010. Along with all this, currently, Kirk also appears in the Saturday night college football games on ABC. Kirk has also been associated with a number of charities like The Make a Wish Foundation Ultimate Sports Auction and the 2012 Buckeye Cruise for Cancer. Kirk has faced a lot of criticism for his style of work.

Kirk had to move from Ohio with his family in lieu of threats that he received Ohio State fans. He was given the threats for giving biased information.

Personal Life

Just like his professional life, Kirk’s personal life has also garnered much attention from the media due to the different affairs and scandals Kirk has been involved with. Kirk married Allison in 1998. The couple met while they were studying at Ohio State University where Allison was a cheerleader.

Kirk and Allison have four sons. Two of them, Jack and Tye, are identical twins and are the eldest ones. They are in eighth grade now. Their third son is Zack who is in sixth grade now and the youngest one is Chase who is second grade. In 2007, the news of Kirk having an affair with the wife of a Columbus police officer surfaced.

Apparently, the affair started when the police officer, a fan of Kirk’s, asked him to sign his wife’s chest after a game.

The police officer divorced his wife stating that she had an affair with Kirk for five years. Apparently, Kirk called the couple and apologized for all that happened. Again rumours surfaced about Kirk having an affair with Erin Andrews. Interestingly, all these rumours and scandals have not affected Kirk and Allison’s relation at all. They are still happily living with each other and no news of any problems between them has appeared till now. Kirk has acquired a net worth of $2 million till now.
