Rajon Rondo is a well known American professional NBA basketball player currently playing for the Chicago Bulls, but mostly known by his play in the Boston Celtics.
Early years
He was born on February 22, 1986 in Louisville, Kentucky in a large family with three brothers. They were soon abandonded by their father, about the time Rajon started going to school.
This complicated situation made his mother to work double shifts for a long while in order to support the family and raise children in a decent way. Rajon often points out that her dedication made him successful in things he did.
Since Rajon was always skinny his mother thought it would be better for him to train basketball, rather than playing football which he loved. She suggested it would be better for his build and will make him stronger, so he started training basketball.
He first attended Eastern High School where he played for the school team. He finished his senior year at Oak Hill Academy where he became a proud owner of a new school basketball record.
After graduation he transferred to the University of Kentucky where he soon became the leader of the team, Kentucky Wildcats. He was given a sports scholarship from this University.
He was one of the basketball players in the USA U-21 team which won a golden medal in Texas in 2005.
Career development
In 2006 he entered the NBA draft. Although he was drafted by the Phoenix Suns he ended up in Boston Celtics after some later trading.
It took him a while to adapt to their game, and by the time it was mid-season his game significantly improved.
He played for the Boston Celtics for eight years, until 2014, when he was traded with Dallas Mavericks.
In 2015 he signed a contract with Sacramento Kings. The very next year he transferred to the Chicago Bulls for a period of two years.
His wealth also comes from many signed endorsement contracts with ANTA, Nike and Red Bull.
Personal life
He and his wife go back a long time. They have met at the University of Kentucky , while they were both in college. Her name is Ashley Nicole Bachelor and she is a hairstylist.
In 2008 she gave birth to their first child, a daughter named Ryelle and a few years later to their son Rajon Jr.
Philantropic work
Rajon’s difficult childhood made him very generous so he started a Rajon Rondo Foundation in 2011 to help children who live in tough conditions.
He has his own summer camp for teaching young basketball players.
His wife is also very involved in charity work. She is included in many charity organizations and events, such as, for example, hosting an event at Saks in Boston for raising money to help Haitians after the big eartgquake.
