Shawty Lo was an Atlanta born rapper and a winner of Track of The Year award on 2008 BET Hip Hop Awards. He was also named Rookie of the Year.

He was on the verge of ending his new album when he tragically died in a car crash in 2016.

Early years

He was born as Carlos Rico Walker on March 31, 1976 in Atlanta, in Georgia, United States.

He was a teenager of 17 when he became a father for the first time. Carlos adored women and they loved him back so there is only a short period in his life when he was without a girlfriend.

His father was Carl Walker and mother was Jozie Usher. He had one brother named Quon.

He started high school but unfortunately he never finished it. That is why he was so proud when he was older when his children graduated.

Career development

In 2003, Shawty started to take his music career more seriously so he decided to form a hip hip group named D4L. Other members of the group were Fabo, Mook-B and Stoney.

Shawty was also a businessman, so he has launched his record label under the same name, D4L Records. With the income he made by publishing records he supported the group for a while, before the sales of their albums started paying off.

After the group made some success they were signed to Dee Money Entertainment. Their first album was called “Down For Life” and included hits “Betcha Can’t Do It Like Me” and a big hit “Laffy Taffy”.

“Laffy Taffy” was inducted into the Guiness Book of World Records: it was the most downloaded song ever in history. The song gained ASCAP award too. The same single made it to No.1 of the Billboard Hot 100 list.

D4L were considered as a group which helped to popularize snap music and make it closer to fans.

In 2007, Shawty thought that it was time to release his own single. It was called “Dey Know” and it preceded his debut albu. Which was called “Units in the City”.

His album featured Gucci Mane and all of D4L members. The presence of Gucci Mane was like a confirmation of group’s quality.

“Dunn Dunn” and “Foolish” were also big hits from the album and a lot of known artists made their version and remixes of these songs. Some of them were Ludacris, Lil Wayne and Rick Ross.

In 2008 he annaunced that he is working on his new album “Carlos”. The album was never released but changed it’s name to “I am Carlos” and after that to “Still Got Units”.

He did release singles that were supposed to be on this album: “Roll the Dice”, “Supplier” and “Atlanta, GA”.

They were featured by Trey Songz, Lil Wayne, Gucci Mane, Ludacris and many more.

In the summer of 2011, he signed his D4L Records label to a major label G-Unit and sealed a grest contract with 50 Cent, the owner of the label.

In 2015 he released a mixtape named “King of Bankhead”. This was his last album before he died in the accident.

Bankhead is a part of the city where he lived and where his fanbase was the biggest.

The same year he reasigned his label to a new label: “Grown Money Entertainment”.

In 2014 he appeared in a TV Series: “Sounds of the Underground: Digital”.

He was in a feud with a rapper T.I. and their entourages confronted one another at 2008 Dirty Awards to the point that police had to come to the event.

The fued started after Shawty released a single “Dunn Dunn” which contained lyrics about T.I. and his roots.

T.I. started returning insults back to Shawty so the fued was created.

A known TV network Oxygen announced in 2013 that they are prepearing a new TV reality show based on Shawty Lo’s life. It would be called ” All My Babies’ Mamas” and would star Walker with all his eleven children and their ten mothers (today it is nine because one of them is deceased).

Personal life

In 2011 he publically confirmed that he has a diabetes.

It is known that he has eleven children with 10 different women.

Shawty’s nine daughters of whic Brittney Pippins and Tyteanna Chandler are the oldest and his two sons were in very good terms with their father.

He supported them financially although he didn’t like their baby mammas and the way their relationships ended.

He stated in one interview that he was always forced to have a child and that women were strongly against the abortion just because they knew that he had money and was able to support them financially.

In the fall of 2016 he died in a car crash after he lost the control over his vehicle, was ejected out of it and died due to severe injuries of the head. Two women who were in the car with him suffered lighter injuries.

Just one week before he died, he was in Decatur on a funeral service for his father Carl. This was more tragicall for his children since they have both lost their father and a grandfather in a fortnight.

His favorite strip club was Blue Flame Lounge. It appears that he was heading home from that club on the night he died.

He was a big fan of shades and baseball cap so he often wore them.
