Early life

Shawntae Harris is the birth name of Da Brat.  She was born on14th April 1974 Joliet, Illinois, United States of America. She was brought up in the city of Chicago and was grown up away from her parents as they never got married.  She attended the Apostolic Church and was the member of the Church Choir.

She got her schooling from Kenwood Academy, and she received her graduate degree from the famous institute Academy of Scholastic Achievement. She got nominated for several awards like the Grammy for the best rapper (female Solo), Billboard Awards and the BET Awards in the category of best female Hip-Hop Artist.

Career

Harris got the first exclusive break that made her start her career. She was successful to win over a grand prize on participating in a rap contest that was organized in the locality.  It got sponsored by Yo! MTV Raps. On winning the grand prize, she was fortunate enough to meet upon Kris Kross, who found a ray of hope in the talented rapper and soon made her introduced to Jermaine Dupri.  Dupri was Brat’s Pathfinder in the rap industry.  He made her get signed under the label “So So Def Labels.” Dupri also went for cultivating Da Brat’s image and declared that she almost resembles the female “Snoop Doggy Dogg.” Soon Brat was popular because she was the first female who was into making rapper on real stories and real incidents.

In the year 1994, Da Brat’s debut series titled “Funkdafied” was enlisted under the Rap albums charts. It got positioned in the 1st position.  The debut series was also ascribed with a platinum cadre.  She became famous only in few days of her debut album’s release. She was soon known to be the first female rapper whose solo hit numbers was sold for 1 million copies within the first week.  It was also counted under the rap single smash hit numbers that got positioned under the sixth rank in the Billboard Hot 100. She came up several follow-ups hits one after the other from the very same album titled “Give It two you.”  The song was positioned under the category of Hot 100.

Brat’s sophomore album was titled with another unique name “Anuthatantrum.” The single solo hit number titled “Ghetto Love” was quite famous and it featured the rapper T-Boz from TLC.  It was during 90’s she came to be featured and successful rapper.  She came to be highlighted by the R&B singer’s albums, and her efforts were appreciated by her colleagues for her solo attempts.  She came up with some of the unique rhyming techniques in her raps that were completely a new genre, and it contributed a lot to the rap industry.  She worked with the hit number of Maria Carey’s hit single solo attempt and came up with a fabulous remix version.

She also got selected to appear in a film “Kazaam” along with Shaquille O’Neal. In the summer of 1997, along with her pathfinder Dupri, she went for recording another hit number into a remix version “Ladies’ Night (Not Tonight)” along with Lil’Kim. The other people who were present in the collaboration were Angie Martinez, Lisa “Left Eyes Lopes” and lastly Missy Elliott. She also went for featuring with Kris Krossin the remix track of “Da Bomb” naming the album “Da Bomb” as well.  Her third hit album was named Young, Rich, and Dangerous. In the year 1997, Brat went with “Sock It 2Me” that was a wonderful track upon the eminent rapper album, Missy Elliott.

It was taken from the rapper’s debut album titled“Supa Dupa Fly.”  She made appearances alongside the rapper Krayzie Bone to develop the remixes of Mariah Carey’s cover song titled “I Still Believe.” She also featured a guest appearance in Carey’s remix version “Heartbreaker,” and another of Brandy’s “U Don’t Know Me (like You U Used To.” She also went for featuring a remix version of the single Destiny’s Child.  The track was titled “Jumpin Jumpin.”

It was in the year 2000, Da Brat went for releasing her third full-length music album titled “Unrestricted”, that consists of the fabulous music track “That’s what I’m Looking For” which got positioned #56 in the U. S. Billboard and the other one being “What the Chu Like”, which too got listed in the position of #26 in the Billboard charts.  The album never got such appreciation like her previous albums. She then went along with the rapper Ludacris and came with the remix version of Carey’s “Loverboy.”

She even had to go to prison for beating up a woman ruthlessly with a gun.  The reason for such a fight was a heated argument just over the sitting arrangements for VIP. The victim was beaten up so severely that she had to be treated with six stitches in the head.  She was sent to prison and had to serve a probationary time for almost a whole year and was also fined a good amount of $ 1000.

Personal life

Da Brat has a clean personal life with no such rumors or controversies.  She was in a relationship with Allen Iverson for about four long years. But the celebrity couple never got married. She is known to be very short tempered and had often been sent to prison.

She had ones beaten up a woman during a visit at a night party held in a nightclub.  Ones she went for beating a waitress with a filled up rum bottle for which she was sent to prison for three long years.  She appeared on the Television Show “Celebrity Fit Club,” “Empire” and “The Parent ‘Hood.’”
