Gary Sinise is an American actor, director and musician.

Early years

Gary Sinise was born on March 17, 1955. In Blue Island, Illinois as a son of Robert L. Sinise, a film editor.

He has Italian roots as his grandfather was of Italian descent.

Sinise attended a regular Illinois high school and graduated from Highland Park High School.

He later went to Illinois state University.

In 1974, Gary founded the „Steppenwolf Theatre Company“ with two of his friends and since then, Steppenwold has trained a lot of today’s well-known actors.

Career development

In 1982, he took his first role in Steppenwold’s production of „True West“.

In 1988, he directed“Miles from Home“, a movie which Richard Gere starred in.

Sinise oftenly co-starred Tom Hanks in movies:“Forrest Gump“, „Apollo 13“ and „The Green Mile“.

He worked on quite a lot of serious and noteworthy movies such as: „Of Mice and Men“(which he also directed), „Reindeer Games“ and  „Mission to Mars.“

The nation got to know him better  through his role of Mac Taylor in the crime drama CSI: New York, where he starred from 2004 to 2013.

He got to show his musical skills by playing the bass guitar in a few episodes.

Today you can see him in Baume & Mercier watches advertisments.

In 2009, Gary narrated World War II on the History Channel, and in 2010 the World War II documentary: Missions That Changed The War.

Philantrophic work

Gary is a true charity supporter, and over the years he joined more than 10 charities, one being formed by himself! His ‘Gary Sinise Foundation’ is also dedicated to serving the U. S. by honoring it’s veterans, their families and those in need.

He focuses mostly on veterans and that’s why he joined: Hope For The Warriors, DAV and  Wounded Warrior Project..

He also donates a lot of his money to H.O.M.E., Operation International Children and Operation Homefront which take care of families in need.

Because of his charity work, he received 2015’s Sylvanus Thayer Award.

Gary co-founded Operation Iraqi Children, which he oftenly speaks about.

Personal life 

Sinise prefers to keep his personal life distanced from the media and that’s why there isn’t a lot of information about it

He married actress Moira Harris in 1981., and they have three children: Sophie, born in1988., McCanna Anthony, born in 1990, and Ella, born in 1992.

In 2003, Sinise was warded an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters, and he has been awarded the U.S. Presidential Citizens Medal.

In his free time, he plays  a bass guitar.

Gary got involved in politics quite a few times, mostly related to Israel-Lebanon conflirts, where he supported Israel.

His Republican learning was transfered on his character of Mac Taylor, who has a picture of American president Ronald Reagan in his office.
