Early years
She was born on May 26, 1966 in Islington, London and is currently 50 years old.
Helena is the youngest of three children, educated at South Hampstead High School and Westminster School.
Her mother suffered a serious nerve breakdown when the actress was only five years old, and a few years after that her father was diagnosed with neuroma,a serious illness which later led to him being half-paralysed.

Bonham Carter never attended a formal acting course and had no experience when she entered the world of film indrustry.
Right after winning her spot in the film making business, she used the money she earned in a writing contest to pay herself an entry into the actors’ directory.
Her first leading film role was in „Lady Jane“ in 1986, but it wasn’t her breakthrough role.

Duschenne Muscular Dystrophy is a condition without a cure, and it results in premature death, cardiac problems and muscle wasting. Her fathers serious illness gave her great understanding for people with similar conditions.

Luckily, in 2001, she met Tim Burton, an American director , while filming „Planet of Apes“.
During their relationship, which is still lasting, Burton casted Helena in numerous movies and, because he knew her so well, always gave her the perfect characters to play.
Although Helena struggled with infertility, today they have two children: son Billy Raymond and a daughter Nell.
