Early life
Dame Julia Elizabeth “Julie” Andrews was born on October 1, 1935 in Walton-on-Thames, England. She is the daughter of Barbara Ward Wells and unnamed family friend.
Her first stepfather was metalwork teacher Ted Wells and latter was Ted Andrews. Julia reported that her second stepfather was violent and alcoholic, even tried to sleep with her.
However, he paid her lessons in Arts Educational Schools in London, where her mentor was Lilian Stiles-Allen. Julia claims that she has a huge impact on her, assigning Lilian as a third mother.
Personal life
Julia is a widow. She was married twice.
Her first marriage was with designer Tony Walton and they divorced in 1967.
The second time Julia married with American director and producer Blake Edwards. They were together until his death in 2010.
They adopted two daughters Amy and Joanna. Today, Julia has 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Acting & Singer Career
The encounter with a British TV director Val Parnell was crucial for Julie start of the career. Her first professional performance was in the London Hippodrome, where she sang the aria ” Je Suis Titania” in 1947.
At 13 years she performed along with Danny Kaye in a Royal Command Variety Performance. Finally, Julia’s tv debut was on the BBC RadiOlympia Showtime. In theater London casino she took the lead role in a folk tale Cinderella.
