Early life
Kai Greene was born on July 12, 1975 in Brooklyn, New York, United States. He had a tough childhood. Kai grew up in a foster care home without knowning who his biological parents are. During his school years, he would often get into fights.
To channel his agression to something positive, one of his teachers introduced him to bodybuilding and exercising. Because of his sudden growth and development, he soon became good at nodybuilding and finnally found something he was good in.
Professional career
He first started training as an enthusiastic bodybuilder and competed in the NPC (National Physique Committee). He had a dream of competing in the IFBB. Even though he won the 1999 NPC Team Universe he decided to take a break from his bodybuilding.
During his break he struggled to make money and often lived on the streets. Kai was also living in the Brooklyn housing project for a while until he woke up and made a decision to get back to the game again.
Finally in 2004 he decided to come back and the win at the NPC Team Universe award gave him a chance to qualify for the IFBB. The prize money gave him enough kickstart to get back to professional bodybuilding again and forget about his recent struggles.
He competed for the title of Mr. Olympia but took several second place titles and decided to give up on his goal to compete for the first place.
He later claimed that he won’t be returning to the competition because there were things he doesn’t want to talk about and left the public wondering what is really going on behind the scenes.
His latest reward is Arnold Classic award. Besides bodybuilding competitions he also earns his money from his endorsements and sponsorships. He was endorsed by Flex and launched Dynamik Muscle, a supplement brand. Kai also launched his training program The 5P.
In 2009 he decided to accept an interesting offer to star in a documentary Overkill. The documentary was directed by Mike Pulcinella and the cameras followed him during his preparations for the Mr. Olympia competition.
Sequels of the documentary followed in 2010 called Redemption and in 2013 Generation Iron. Some of his net worth comes from a podcast he started in 2015 together with Krystal Lavenne. The podcast is called Generation Iron and he answers some of the burning questions his fans send to him.
