Early Life

Kodak Black was born as Dieuson Octave on June 11th 1997 in the Pompano Beach of Florida, USA. Both his parents are migrants from Haiti. He is of Afro-American ethnicity. He was brought by his mom in Pompano Beach’s public housing project, Golden Acres. From a very young age, Octave used ‘Black’ as his nickname. His other nicknames were ‘Lil Black.’ After he had come on Instagram, he created his username as Kodak Black. Much later, this name was adopted as the stage name when he began his career as a rapper.  He was highly supported and loved by his fans.

In 2014, Kodak Black was pursuing a High school diploma which he completed successfully from Blanche Ely High School. He is yet to attend college. Career

In the year 2009, a twelve-year-old Kodak Black collaborated with Brutal Youngnz, a rap team with a stage names ‘J-Black’ and ‘Duffle Black.’ He was the youngest member, but his high-pitched vocals stood out which made his voice unique in every song. What U Talking Bout and Walk With Me are two tracks that made his vocals stand out most. After Brutal Youngnz, Kodak joined another local group named The Kolyons.

After the group had become dysfunctional, Kodak used YouTube to bring forth his music. One of his earliest songs was called ‘Diary of a Brutal Kid’ which talked in details how he has faced harsh hatred from his haters. He went on to release few freestyle songs which were covers of Mac Miller, Wale, 2 Chainz and many more.

In December of 2013, he dropped his debut mixtape named Project Baby. It featured a total of 18 songs among which some of the tracks were produced by K.E. On the Track, DJ Jay-R, Rooq and more. Following this, in December of 2014, Kodak Black went ahead to release his second mixtape named Hearts of the Projects. This project got a lot of views and attention of other hip-hop musicians.

In October of the year 2015, Drake posted an Instagram video of him dancing to Kodak Black’s number ‘Skrt,’ and this boosted Black’s popularity. Following this incident, Drake signed Kodak Black with the Atlantic Records. In December 2015, Black released his third mixtape Institution. This mixtape contained 24 tracks which helped him to gain significance and popularity remote from his hometown.

In May of the year 2016, Kodak was a featured artist on French Montana’s latest singles, ‘Lockjaw’ which was a part of French Montana’s 21st mixtape MC4. This collaboration reached the 23rd position on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. In June of the year 2016, Lil Uzi Vert and Kodak decided to partner for a tour ‘Parental Advisory Tour’ that was stretched for 19 days and 21 Savage was a feature.

In the year June 2016, Kodak released Lil B.I.G. Pac which was his fourth mixtape. This became one of his very first works to have reached the 49th place on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. The tape contained 13 tracks with prestigious special appearances from Gucci Mane and PnB Rock. The producers for this mixtape were Honorable C.N.O.T.E, J-Gramm and much more. In August 2016, Black’s single ‘Skrt’ topped the Billboard’s Bubbling Under R&B/Hip I Hop Singles at number 10.

In June of the year 2016, XXL Magazine named Kodak Black as one of their ‘2016 Freshman Class’. In August of 2016, Black faced criticism after a video of studio session was released which showed him making fun of dark-skinned women with words that defamed their looks as compared to white or light-skinned women. In June 2016, during his jail servitude, Kodak Black released a track named ‘Can I.’

In February of 2017, Black released ‘Tunnel Vision’ his latest single. After its release, the song gained about 25 million views in two weeks time. The song reached number 6 on Billboard Hot 100 after debuting at number 27. It also climbed at number 17th on Canadian Hot 100. The producers for this were Southside, Metro Boomin, and Cubeatz. Since its release on February 16th 2017, the song has been played over 13.7 million times on Black’s SoundCloud.

In March 2017, Kodak Black released Painting Pictures, his first studio album. It featured appearances by artists like Future, Young Yeezy, and Young Thug. ‘Tunnel Vision’ is a part of this album. The album was released by Atlantic Records and came with 25 minutes long documentary named ‘Project Baby.’

Personal Life

Kodak Black is currently not married. There are no records of him having a relationship or a partner. There are faint images of his love life through his lyrics. He also doesn’t have any children.

In August of year 2016, Black was presented at court of Fort Lauderdale, Florida where the plea agreement got settled on one-year house arrest with five years’ probation and added community services. Before he was released, sexual exploitation charges were dug up by the police against him. The very first was from Florence of South Carolina which accounted sexual misconduct and the other was illegal cannabis possession in St. Lucie County of Florida. In September of 2016, Black didn’t contest for both the charges and also was sentenced four months jail period. He was also barred from driving for 1 entire year time.

After his jail time is Florida, Kodak Black was shifted to Florence, South Carolina for his charges for the sexual harassment. The female victim reported, when she was attending performance in February s2016 of Kodak Black in Florence at the ‘Treasure City,’ she went to the hotel room accompanied by him, where he forcibly tore her clothes and then raped her even when she pleaded for help.

After the hearing, Black was slapped with a $100,000 bond upon which he was released in South Carolina. He had to return to court in February of 2017 because of violating his probation; this postponed his touring.

In May 2017, Black has sentenced again for violation of his home arrest in Broward County Jail. He was further released on 5 June 2017. He is under house arrest for a year and probation for five years.
