Khalif Malikibnsham Brown or otherwise popularly known by his stage name Swae Lee is a popular American rapper, songwriter, and singer.

Early life

Swae Lee was born on June 07, 1993 in Inglewood, California but the family soon relocated to Tupelo, Mississippi when both Lee and his brother were a lot younger. The family then started living in Ida Street Housing projects which were a very crime prone area. Lee and his brother had a very tough childhood because of the situations at home.

Soon after the family relocated, their parents decided to separate leaving the entire family on the streets. They started seeking places to live in because of the unstable state they were in. Music was the one thing that brought peace to Lee and his brother.

It was later in their teenage that both the brother started listening to rap music and started idolizing the famous rapper, David Banner.

Career

This Young rapper is popularly known to be one-half of the popular duo Rae Sremmurd in which he performs along with his actual sibling Slim Jimmy. This iconic hip-hop duo has gained a lot of fame and recognition since the release of their very first song. The younger of the two, Lee has been nothing but dedicated to his work and music. He started to showcase his talents via YouTube and eventually decided to simply work along with his brother who is equally talented in the same field.

With a tough childhood, Lee always wanted to make a name for himself with his talent. Prior to the worldwide fame that he enjoys today, Swae Lee and his brother Jxmmi performed a number of small gigs at several parties and clubs around the area. The two of them later joined hands with a common friend, Jamia Middlebrooks and formed the group “Dem Outta State Boyz.” The three of them started recording a few of their demos and songs and started uploading them on YouTube to get noticed by any of the record labels. It wasn’t that easy to be done.

Lee and Jxmmi decided to finally step out of their little bubble and explore the world as suggested by P-Nasty. The duo then moved to Atlanta where they ended up meeting the popular producer Mike Will Made-It and ended up signing with his record label EarDrummers Entertainment. They later produced two tracks titled “We” and “I Dip” which didn’t get much recognition and popularity.

Although this seemed like an obstruction, the two of them never gave up and continued with their work and writing songs. They later released their debut single “No Flex Zone” in the year 2014 which sky-rocketed their fame to the very top. The song charted at #35 in the US Billboard Hot 100 music charts which were definitely a breakthrough. They later went on to release their next song titled “No Type” which was an even bigger hit than their previous track and charted at #16, gaining them a lot of popularity and recognition.

Following the popularity and the recognition they received, Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi released two studio albums titled Stremmlife and Stremmlife 2 which sold a lot of records. Later in 2016, Lee finally announced that he is going to debut solo album, Swaecation.

There are little to no traces of his personal life that has been caught up by the media. Lee always stated that he likes to keep his personal life personal and not outcast it for the entire world to see.

As of 2017, Swae Lee has an estimated net worth of $3 million.
