Early years

Rebbeca Marie Gomez aka Becky G was born on March 2, 1997 in Inglewood (California, United States).

Her parents are Alejandra and Francisco Gomez, and her grandparents came from Mexico. Her parents were born in the United States but they have always cherrished their Mexican roots and followed the traditions. She says she feels very connected to her roots and that she never felt bad about them.

She has three siblings: two brothers and a sister. She also has a half-sister Amber, and she found about her when she was 13 years old. Her brothers are Frankie and Alex, and her sister is Stephanie.

Rebbeca grew up in Moreno Valley in a very poor household. He was only nine years old when her parents lost their home and had to move to their grandparents house. They lived in their garage which was made into a living facility. This was a life experience which taught her the meaning and value of money so she decided to help her parents anyway she could’ve. In interviews from years and years later, she said that she never felt like her parents failed to give her anything.

She was very responsible as a child and always worked to earn money for the family. She had part-time jobs and she started doing a lot of commercials. She was a natural talent and very hardworking so she was liked by the advert producers. This made her more mature than kids her age because she lived in a very tough environment. Many people don’t know this part of Becky’s life.

Rebecca loved music from her early age and always sang whenever she could find time for herself. She was fond of The Temptations and Etta James. She also found herself in James Brown’s music.

She is a proud Mexican and it is in her blood to like traditional Mexican songs so she found great pleasure in singing tradicional songs.

She attended public school but she was often a target of bullying, especially because of her jobs in commercial. The kids used to tease her a lot. Her family decided to home-school her after that. They were understanding and knew how bullying could leave consenquences.

In 2008, she appeared in “El Tux”, a short film (comedy directed by Paco Fareira). She acted alongside Daniel Edward Mar, Harvey Guillen and Shelbie Bruce.

Becky G also had a role in “La Estacion De La Calle Olvera” which was a Discovery Channel’s TV movie. She said this was an amazing experience.

Career development

In 2009 she joined a girl group called “GL.M.”. A little after she joined B.C.G., another music girl group. She tried to find a boost for her career…

In 2009 her group G.L.A.M. filmed a video for “Jelly Bean” single. This was a huge hit and has put Becky G in the front.

She created a YouTube account where she posted her own covers of popular songs. She began writing her own lyrics and even taught to play the guitar through internet. It was at the age of 13 and lots of people find this fascinating.

She met a duo “The Jam” which liked her work and helped her produce the covers of many songs: “Lighters”, “Novacone”, “Boyfriend” and more. This was in 2011.

Her cover of the song “Otis” brought attention to her. She was introduced to Dr. Luke, a known producer who worked with Britney Spears. Dr. Luke saw her talent and the way she plays her guitar and decided to put her under his wing. At this moment Becky knew that she made it.

She signed a contract with his “Kemosabe Records”. That meant that her solo album was on the way. She was very excited to start writing.

“Shower” became platinum twice in the U.S. which is a great success for such a young singer.

She became the spokeswoman of Cover Girl, an American Cosmetics brand. This meant that she would appear all over billboards and television, and would get a supstantial amount of money for it.

She was the opening act for singers such as Katy Perry and Demi Lovato in 2014/2015 on their concerts. This significantly widened her fanbase.

She appeared in two episodes of a known TV series “Empire” and brought two singles to it: “Do It” and “New, New”. She gained good critics for the small roles in thus TV series.

Since she always liked acting she appeared in many television productions in 2015, such as  Mahomie Madness, Teens Wanna Know,  Austin & Ally,  and ofcourse the Empire.

Personal life

She is a sincere family person and would have stopped anything she does if she knew that some family member is in trouble or needs help.

She is especially soft on her brother Alex who has an autism disorder. Every year, on April 2nd (which is a World Autism Awareness Day),  she speaks about the illness and tries to raise awareness.

It’s even on that day that she introduced fans to her brother over a post on her Instagram account.It was very emotional and fans respected her honesty and gave her support.

She always answers to invitations for her to sing at events connected with raising awareness for this disease or raising money for research.

In 2015 she dated a singer Austin Mahone but their relationship was short. In the spring 2016 she started dating Sebastian Lletget, an American soccer player. He plays midfield for LA Galaxy club. They are very much in love and their social media accounts are full of their photos and loving words from one to the other.

It takes a lot of effort for a relationship like that to succeed. He has games and travels; she goes on tours and has concerts – they really like each other so they are giving their maximum to find time for one another and for their relationship to succeed.

She is a big fan of Justin Bieber and says that her biggest influences were Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Lopez.

She is a big fan of spicy food, which is not unusual since she is of Mexican decent. She loves hot sauce Cholula best.

Rebecca has a gap tooth but she has learned to embrace it and give it no attention. Although she wore braces as a kid, the gap eventually returned. She used to get teased about this during her childhood, but she toughened up and learned to fight for herself. She now calls it her trade mark.
