Erin was born on 2nd July 1976, in Maryland, U.S.A. She was born to Kenneth King Burnett and Esther Margaret and is their youngest child. Erin’s father, Kenneth King Burnett, was a corporate attorney. She was named Erin Isabelle Burnett.
Erin graduated in 1994 from St. Andrew’s School in Middletown of Delaware. Erin then attended the Williams College in Williams worth, Massachusetts. She was graduated from Williams College with a degree of B.A in political economy in 1998.
Career
Burnett’s first ever job was at Goldman Sachs as the financial analyst. She worked in corporate finance and acquisitions and mergers in the investment banking division of the company.
Burnett left Goldman Sachs when she was offered a job by CNN in 1999. In CNN, she worked as a booker and writer for the show ‘Moneyline.’ Erin worked with Lou Dobbs, Stuart Varney, and Willow Bay. Erin quit CNN and joined as vice president of CitiMedia, which is a digital media group of Citigroup. Next, Erin joined Bloomberg Television and served the company as an anchor and stocks editor.
In 2005, Erin started hosting the ‘Street Signs’ and co-anchoring the show ‘Squawk on the Street’ along with Mark Haines. Both the show aired on CNBC. Erin again faced a controversy when she mocked the protesters of the ‘Occupy Wall Street’ protest, on air, in October 2011. She was heavily criticised for this by journalist Glenn Greenwald in an article written for ‘Salon.’ Greenwald wrote in the article that Erin’s reporting was biased as she had worked on Wall Street. In response to this article, CNN made a statement in support of Erin saying “We support Erin and the OutFront team and we respect that there will be a range of opinions on any given story.”
