If not the most prominent of racers but in his span from 1993 to 2009 Jeremy had made quite a worthy effort in the stock car racing. The former car racers from America had accompanied many noteworthy personalities of the racing world.

By accepting his assistance many racers as Sadler brothers, Michael Kranefuss, T.W. Taylor, Roger Penske, Cale Yarborough, Ray Evernham, Gene Hass and Bill Davis have acknowledged his aptitude.

Jeremy drove the car for Mayfield Motorsport which was his own, on 9th May 2009. His name has been unfortunately got blemish due to a positive drug test for methamphetamine. Though suspension of NASCAR was withdrawn temporarily but again, he tests positive for methamphetamine on a random test.

On 24th July 2009, the previous suspension was honored, and the racer was permanently suspended from participating in any capacity in the car racing. Alongside other personalities, Jeremy had earned quite reasonably and was able to make up an estimated net worth of half a million dollars.

Early life

Jeremy was born as Jeremy Allen Mayfield on 27th May 1969 in Owensboro, Kentucky, United States of America. Jeremy is the son of Late Terry Mayfield. He had a very bitter relation with his step-mother, Lisa. There is no record or information available about his own mother who died quite early as his father got involved with Lisa and later married her. There is also no information regarding his education either, and perhaps Jeremy at his teenage must have gone through some disproportionate lifestyle after the passing away of his own mother. In his own hometown at Owensboro, Jeremy started his racing career with the BMX bicycle.

After some time Jeremy wanted to move to other means of racing and started participating in the go-cart. The ambition of becoming a car racer had emerged in the minds of young Jeremy, and he kept racing in the local track with his go-cart.

Career

When he attained the age of 19, he moved towards Nashville Speedway. Within few months he started working as the fabricator in the Sadler Brothers Racing. He convinced the car owner and took the seat to drive. Not letting them down entered the Kentucky Motor Speedway and succeeded in the Late Model Rookie of the Year 1987. During his early car driving the promise of long drive was quite present in his focus for the sport. After few years in 1993, he got into the ARCA series and with the aptitude got the Rookie of the year.

Mayfield went for the Cup first time in 1993 in the Mello Yello 500 with Ford Thunderbird No.95 which belongs to Sadler Brothers and came out 29th. In 1995 he accompanied T.W. Taylor for four races than on the later part of the year joined Cale Yarborough. At his debut season, he finished best at Rockingham finishing 19th.  In 1997 he joined Haas-Kranefuss team and came out with 8 top-10s. Out of these 10s in 2 races he got 5th rank. The season ended with the career-best 13th rank in term of points.

After this, ownership changed again as Penske Racing South took over. Jeremy made a tremendous run at the Pocono 500 and won the race which was his first career win. In 1999 instead of having 12 top 10s in the standing he was dropped by 4 spots. In 2000 he won 2 races and 4 poles. His Cup series victory in 2000 with Dale Earnhardt is considered to his best among all that he had participated.  In the NASCAR Xfinity Series, he raced last in the 2006 Stater Brothers 300 in Fontana.

In the same year, he made his last appearance in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series as he raced in EasyCare Vehicle Service Contracts in Atlanta. In 2014 Jeremy decided to participate in the Super Late Model racing and dirt.

Personal life

He is married to Shana Sessions Mayfield. She had definitely stayed beside Jeremy when the racer was struggling with the case of methamphetamine. After his days in the car racing, he was engaged in the capacity of the delivery person. He had to leave his home in 2012. He was further convicted of having paraphernalia and stolen items which gave him unsupervised probation for 18 months and a fine of around $90 thousand dollars. Jeremy had come up with a video elaborating his story with the title ‘The Mayfield Story’ in 2014.

In 2012 he paid another fine of $1 million as his dog made had made scratches on the delivery man. The perfect personality for any tragic hero story featured in “Who’s Cheatin’ Who’ and “Drwning.”
