Jonathan McCollum who is popularly known by his stage name Rittz is a famous American rapper and music artist.

He gained his recognition because of the unique raps and genres of music that he primarily wrote about along with the uniqueness that was reflected in his debut album, The Life and Times of Jonny Valiant.

Early Life

Rittz was born on August 16, 1980, in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. His family later relocated to Gwinnett County in Georgia when he was just eight years old. He didn’t have a very rich upbringing, but he was provided with all the necessities that any kid needs in their childhood.

His parents were huge fans of rock n roll and always wanted their children were exposed to the type of music that they listened to. This was exactly what ignited the interest in Rittz’s mind about music and rapping.

Career

Rittz didn’t get everything served out on a platter for him. He literally had to fight and struggle through the ups and downs of the industry to make it to the position that he stands on today. After making it big and finally winning the battlegrounds on the Hot 107.9, he felt like it was his stepping stone and he would finally be able to make it big he just couldn’t. He was in turmoil amidst all the contracts and managers in the music industry and came to know about the twists in them.

He almost gave up the career he dreamt of after the persistent failures. At a certain period, he was broke and lived with his friends and almost just gave up. It was finally in 2009 that the famous rapper Yelawolf contacted him and started supporting him financially. This background and that support that he got from the rapper was what helped him get up and start afresh. It was Yelawolf who put him in the “Box Chevy.” During this time, Rittz even worked a number of nine to five jobs to support his music and himself.  It took him ten long years to pursue a budding and recognizable career in the rapping industry.

He got that big breakthrough in his career after Yelawolf featured him in his EP “Box Chevy.” People started recognizing and liking his style and voice which was an added bonus. He did other collaborations on songs with Yelawolf, and the two of them even toured together in the 2012 Slumerican Tour. Prior to the tour, he even released his debut mixtape,”White Jesus” which gained him a lot of popularity.

Since the White Jesus was perceived very well by the audience, he decided to simply take some songs off that mixtape and added a few more songs in the same and released a new mixtape “White Jesus: Revival.”

It was later in 2012 that Rittz finally signed with Tech N9ne’s Strange Music label. The duo started working together and writing several songs since then. They finally released “Bloody Murdah” which was one of the most popular collaborations of his career. Rittz finally signed to the same record label. Following that, he started working on his solo debut album and finally released the same on April 30, 2013, and titled it as The Life and Times of Jonny Valiant.

Rittz later started gaining a lot more recognition as a solo artist and appeared in the very first cypher in the popular BET Hip Hop Awards in 2013 alongside Rhapsody, Wax, Jon Connor and many others.

It was later in 2014 that Rittz finally released a Facebook video announcing the release of his second album, Next To Nothing. It was finally released on September 09, 2014. He later released one more album, Top of the line in May 2016 and later announced on July 2017 that his fourth album, Last Call is set to be released on September 29, 2017.

Personal life

Rittz is a very private person and likes to keep his personal and professional life separate. The most important thing that he focuses on is to keep his personal life away from the prying eyes of the media. This is one of the main reasons why there has been little to no reports about the same.

As of 2017, Rittz has an estimated net worth of $4 million.
