Lil Yachty (Miles Parks McCollum) was born in Mableton, Georgia, the USA on August 23rd 1997 to Shannon McCollum (Father) and his mother’s name is unknown. He has one sibling names, Kodie Shane. His father is a photographer. Lil Yachty holds an American nationality and is of black ethnicity. His hometown is Atlanta (Georgia). He attended Pebblebrook High school. Later, he attended Alabama State University but dropped out after two months to dedicate all his focus to build a successful music career.

In 2015, McCollum moved from Atlanta to New York City to pursue his music career. He adopted the stage name ‘Lil Yachty.’ The name has a purpose of branding. He says that he used to call himself Yachty when he was part of a boat club.  As a name of the nautical theme, Yachty father notes that it is a great way to boost personal value as well as bringing back the trends of the past which include old school Hip Hop. The euphemism influences and pushes him to move forward from the landlocked hometown of Atlanta. As a young artist, this is a great move.

In his initial time in New York, he used to live with a friend and was involved to network online street fashions and with that he built a strong follower base. He looked for instances which will introduce him to music. His initial works include him teaming up with Blueberry Perry who is a beat maker and producer as well as one of his main collaborator K$upreme. The trio has named themselves as ‘The Sailing Trio’ and worked together in Yachty’s bedroom studio setup. His very first work success was Drake’s OVO Sound Radio which aired his hit work ‘Minnesota.’ Lil Yachty’s sister Kodie Shane is also a part of his The Sailing Trio sensation.

In December 2015, Lil Yachty came to fame with his SoundCloud song, ‘One Night’ was used in an online viral video. His song ‘One Night’ contained various elements of singing, rapping, strange visuals and funny subject with was true to the audience and was well received. In February 2016, Lil Yachty walked the ramp as a model for Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 3 at Madison Square Garden. Lil Yachty dropped his debut mixtape in the March of the same year. In April 2016, Yachty in collaboration with D.R.A.M for the hit song ‘Broccoli,’ this number climbed the fifth position on BillBoard 100. He was also a featured artist on Chance the Rapper’s mixtape Colouring Book which was released in May 2016. In June 2016, Yachty announced that he has signed for a joint venture with Capitol Records, Quality Control Music, and Motown Records. Yachty’s second mixtape, Summer Songs 2 was released in July 2016.

In December 2016, Yachty was a featured artist on Kyle’s hip hop single ‘iSpy.’ He also worked as a featured artist in Tee Grizzley’s single ‘From the D to the A’ which was released in March 2017.

On May 26th 2017, Lil Yachty dropped his debut studio album named Teenage Emotion. The featured artists and special appearances on this album included Diplo, Migos, YG, Stefflon Don, Grace and Evander Griiim and much more. Three promotional singles came out along with the track. The first single was ‘Harley’ for which K Swisha was the producer; this was released on April 14th 2017. The next single was ‘Bring It Back’ which released on May 4th 2017 and was produced by Free School. The third and final single, ‘X Men’ was produced by Tillie and 30 Roc and had a guest appearance of Evander Griiim and was released on May 18, 2017. Lil Yachty was picked up by Urban Outfitters as the face of their nautical clothing line.

It is rumored that Lil Yachty lives with his parent. He spends his hard earned money very carefully. He is exploring different disciplines to acquire and diversify his wealth. He is very fond of cars and has invested in quite a few cares.

The charges were later dropped, but he was charged a hefty sum of $11,000 for a bail bond at that time.

He was also involved in a controversy with his colleague, Soulja Boy.
