Early life
Nicholas Scott Cannon was born in San Diego, California in a difficult neighborhood. Gangs were something normal for his community and there was no way to avoid them on daily basis. Although, growing up in a neighborhood like this is not easy, he managed to escape his rough surroundings and make it in life.
To avoid everything bad around him he spent most of his early days playing basketball and staying of the street.
His mother, Beth Cannon, was an accountant. His father, James Cannon, was a motivational televangelist offered him a chance to introduce himself to the audience for the first time as a comedian on his father’s show. This was his first appearance on TV and after this he fell in love with the spotlight. After he graduated he started working for Nickelodeon as a comedian, doing warm-up’s before the show “All That”.
In the ’90 he stared in a teen show called “Check this Out!”. The show wanted to present talented African American teenagers and their skills regarding television production. He left the show before he started his High School even though he was a co-host and a key member of the group.
Music career
Comedy was something he enjoyed, but he had many more talents and one of them was music. Even as a teenager he had formed a rap group with his friends called Da G4 Dope Bomb Squad. They even managed to do few opening acts for big names, like Will Smith.
In 2001 he signed with Jive records but he soon left the label and formed his own Can I Ball Records. Cancellation happened again, together with forming a new label N’Credible Entertainment in 2009. Only two singles have been released from this label.
In 2013 Nick released his single “Me Sexy” seven years after his first debut single and album Stages. New album was called White People Party Music and it featured artists like Pitbull, Polow da Don, Afrojack and many others.
Other career ventures
Nick also had other talents. His acting career actually prevented him from pursuing his music career. He appeared in “Drumline” in 2002, “Love don’t cost a thing” in 2003 and in 2008 he appeared in the remake of “Day of the dead”.
He also continued to work for Nickelodeon as a chairman of TeenNick. This was a separate channel that is devoted for teens. Nick served as a consultant for the network and he helped in creation and writing of Incredible Crew, teen show, which was produced by Cartoon Network Studios and N’Credible Entertainment. He is responsible for creating HALO awards and TeenNick Top 10.
Through N’Credible Entertainment Nick created shows like “Real Husbands of Hollywood” and “Brooklyn-Nine Nine”. He also stars in “Real Husbands of Hollywood”.
He worked as a host of the NBC’s “Caught on Camera with Nick Cannon” and also from fourth to tenth season of “America’s Got Talent”. Nick hosted and created the MTV show Wild ‘N Out which will run for its 8 season this year.
Nick Cannon also is a chief creative officer for Radioshack and he hosts a radio show on CBS radio, stand-up comedy tours and hot dog contests.
In 2013 he was master of ceremonies and an honoree of the Ebony Magazine Power 100 Awards.
In July 2010 Cannon announced his stand-up comedy tour, starting in Montreal. Later in 2011 he recorded his stand-up comedy special, which was premiered in Las Vegas and on Showtime, and was later released on iTunes.
Personal life
Nick married Mariah Carey on April 30, 2008. This marriage came as a surprise since Nick and Mariah had a significant age difference. The ceremony was held on her private estate in The Bahamas.
Together with Mariah he has twins, daughter and a son. Daughter’s name is Monroe after Marilyn Monroe and son’s name is Moroccan Scott. Nick was hospitalized in 2012 for his mild-kidney failure and he later announced that his kidney failure happened due to lupus nephritis.
In 2014 speculations began about their marriage. During 2014 the couple announced that they were separating and the divorce became final in 2016. Although media tried to present the divorce as messy as they could, but Nick and Mariah kept cool heads until the end. They still respect and care for each other and both take care of their children.
