Sloane Stephens is a young American tennis player.
Early years
She was born on March 20, 1993 in a city called Plantation in Florida, USA. Her mother was an extraordinary swimmer at Boston University and her father John played American football. She and her younger brother were raised in a happy home always nourishing sports as a very important factor.
Her brother also followed their parents footsteps and became a baseball and a football player.
Career development
His first encounter with tennis was in a tennis club in Fresno, California and since she was getting really good at it, she moved to Evert Tennis Academy. After that, she transfered to Nick Saviano Academy of Tennis and became a new young star. Her mother decided she has to dedicate herself to tennis so she started homeschooling until her graduation in 2011.
She became a professional player in 2007, and in 2008, when she was 15, she began to show her talent and always was at the top of the tournaments. In 2009 she found herself at junior Wimbledon where she made it to the quarterfinals.
The peek of her career was the semifinals at Australian Open. She will always remember the 2013 because she defeated the famous Serena Williams. She had Serena’s poster on the wall while she was growing up, and it was her lifetime wish to play with her on the court. After she won the match she felt her hard work was rewarded.
Most of her greatest titles, three of them to be precise, were in the Doubles with Timea Babos ( French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open). She is currently ranked 29 in women tennis, but her highest rank was Nr 11, in 2013, by the Women’s Tennis Association.
After a very bad 2015, when she fell outside of top thirty women players, she recovered in 2016. She won three titles in 2016 and is in a great condition, mentally prepared for the hard work coming her way.
She upgraded her financial status by signing endorsement deals with Listerine and American Express.
Personal life
Her parents got divorced very soon, when she was very little, and she hasn’t heard from her father John until she was about 13 years old.
He was a back for the England patriots in NFL and he reached out to her after he found out he had a degenarative disease. They started to be friends, but he soon died when she was sixteen, in a tragical truck accident. From then it has been only her and mum.
In 2014 she started dating Jack Sock, also a tennis player.
Philantropic work
She is involved in Souls for Soles program. It is based on giving shoes to people arround the globe who are poor or live in a less fortunate environment. This was all done in collaboration with the Women’s Tennis Association, since the shoes were collected before and after her tennis matches.
