Early Life
Martin Garrix was born as Martijn Gerard Garritsen to his parents Karin and Gerard Garritsen on May 14th, 1996 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He has one sister named Laura Garrtisen. He picked up learning guitar from a very tender edge which fuelled his passion for music. He started playing guitar from a very tender age. Garrix graduated from Herman Brood Academy, which is a production school situated in Utrecht.

Career
The one who influenced him was also the one who found out Garrix. Martin Garrix was discovered by his idol Tiesto. At the age of 16, Garrix started his music career with the release of his song ‘BFAM’ along with Julian Jordan and another song ‘Just Some Loops’ which was a collaboration project with TV noise and appeared in the compilation named Loop Masters Essential, vol. 2. Following this event, he got signed my Spinnin’ Records in 2012. Under this record company, Garrix released ‘Error 404’.
The following year, Garrix worked in collaboration with Sidney Samson and the duo co-released ‘Torrent’ through Tiesto’s Musical Freedom label. When he dropped his single ‘Animals’ through Dutch Spinnin’ Records, his fame soared and broke the barriers, grabbed the spot of No.1 on various music charts all over Europe. He was also the youngest person to have climbed to No.1 spot of Beatport. This track was also featured on Hardwell’s Hardwell presents ‘Revealed Vol. 4’. During an early 2015 DigitalSpy interview, Martin Garrix complimented Usher as a very ‘‘humble’’ artist and a great person to collaborate with. He has also worked alongside the pop icon Ed Sheeran for a track named ‘Rewind Repeat It’, this track was played at 2015’s Ultra Music Festival in March 2015 in Miami, Florida. Throughout 2015, he has worked with Tiesto, Avicii on tracks like ‘The Only Way Is Up’ and ‘Waiting for Love’. He also worked with Russian DJs Matisse and Sadko for the Break Through The Silence EP. Garrix also had a contract conflict with Spinnin’ Records and he left MusicAllStars Management. This was in regard to the ownership of the music he was producing. He also had a lawsuit against his manager of the time, Eelko van Kooten. During the end of 2015, Garrix started his own record label. The dispute with Spinnin’ Records regarding the ownership of his track ‘Animals’ was later resolved and the lawsuit charges were also dropped. During the very end of December 2015, Garrix came out with another track ‘Bouncybob’ which was made available for free. This track was co-produced with him by Mesto and Justin Mylo.
In 2016, Martin Garrix became the proud owner of STMPD RCRDS, his own record label. ‘Now That I’ve Found You’ was the very first track that he released through his own label. The track featured artists like Michel Zitron and John Martin. He dropped the news of debut album through Twitter and in Ultra Music Festival 2016, he released about 10 new undistributed tracks which included collaborations with many artists like Julian Jordan, Linkin Park, Bebe Rexha, Jay Hardway, Ed Sheeran and more. He released his second single of 2016 ‘Lions in the World’ in collaboration with Third Party (British DJ).
Garrix went on to sign a contract with Sony Music International. He collaborated with Bebe Rexha and dropped the song ‘In the Name of Love’. Garrix performed his music for the very first time on-air along with Bebe Rexha on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon along the show’s band The Roots. He released many songs during his performances in Tomorrowland, Belgium and Ultra Music Festival, Miami, Florida.
Martin Garrix won the awards for ‘Best World Stage Performance’ and ‘Best Electronic Act’ at MTV European Music Awards 2016’. He performed ‘In the Name of Love’ with Bebe Rexha on the same event.
Garrix was the supporting artist on Justin Bieber’s Purpose World Tour in Australia. In 2017, he has also collaborated with British singer Dua Lipa for the single ‘Scared to Be Lonely’, he also performed the song on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Hi Ibiza announced that Martin Garrix was their resident DJ of 2017. He also released a collaborative work with Brooks named ‘Byte’.
Garrix also collaborated with Troye Sivan for the first time and released a track named ‘There For You’ which they also performed at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2017.
Martin Garrix is counted among the few international DJs who entered modelling when he became the face of Armani Exchange for their Fall 2017 collection. Personal Life
Very little is known about Martin Garrix’s personal life. It is speculated that he had romantic links with Bebe Rexha and Lynn Spoor. It is rumoured that he is dating Charelle Schriek, a model. Garrix likes to keep his foot on ground and lead a humble life when he is not hyping with the electronic beats.
When his hit track ‘Animals’ was released, he still used to live with his parents. Now he has a 400 sq. ft. apartment in Amsterdam. He strives to live a humble life and doesn’t have any personal cars yet because the young artist doesn’t possess a driving license as of now.
He is a big giver and is associated with many charity drives. For the Red Nose Day 2015, he appeared on a video with Kat Deluna from Halsey and North of Nine for telling a joke. This was a fundraiser planned by Comic Relief. Philanthropist at heart, he was linked with a non-profit named Fuck Cancer, he starred in a LA concert whose proceedings went to the organisation dedicated for discovery, prevention and support for the cancer affected.
