Early Life
Offset was born as Kiari Kendrell Cephus on December 14th 1991 in Lawrenceville, Georgia, Unites States. Not much is known about his parents and his early life. He is an American citizen and is of Black ethnicity.
He grew up together with his cousin Quavo and nephew Takeoff. In 2009, in their late teen years, the three together formed a hip-hop crew named Migos. They were heavily influenced by hip-hop music.
Career
Influenced by the hip-hop scene, Migos was formed by Offset, Quavo, and Takeoff. The kept on experimenting with their sound for few years till they made their debut mixtape Juug Season in August 2011. This was released independently and was available for digital download. The tape contained nineteen tracks including ‘Locked In The Game,’ ‘Train Rek,’ ‘Ray Bans’ and ‘Money Going In.’
In June 2012, they released their second mixtape No Label which had tracks like ‘2Pac & Biggie’, ‘Hit Juug,’ ‘Pull Out,’ ‘U Didn’t Know’ and much more. This mixtape attracted producers like Coach K and Zaytoven who also kick-started the career of Gucci Mane and Young Yeezy.
In June 2013, Migos dropped their third mixtape through Quality Control which was named Y.R.N (Young Rich N*ggas) with 18 tracks which included tracks like ‘Jumping Out Of The Gym,’ ‘Thank You, God,’ ‘Bakers Man’ and much more. Some of the featured artists of this mixtape were Gucci Mane, Que, RiFF RaFF and Trinidad James. This mixtape was marked as the best mixtape from 2013 by Rolling Stone.
Offset’s big breakthrough that pushed them into the limelight was Migos’s single ‘Versace’ which was released on October 1st 2013. This song was remixed by various pop artists, and the list included Adrien Broner, Why SL Know Plug, Swagg Man, Justin Bieber, Johnny Polygon and Cap G. the song was placed at 99 in Billboard Hot 100. The official music video was well received and has fished over 19 million views and has received a gold accreditation from RIAA.
Offset has worked with Rich, The Kid on two projects which were the mixtapes, Streets on Lock and Streets on Lock 2. The hit songs from these tapes were ‘Camera Flash’ (Feat. Soulja Boy, ‘On My Pradas,’ ‘Quarter Million Dollars,’ ‘Sean Kemp’ (Feat. Chill Will), ‘I Do Juug.’
In February 2014, they worked with extensively with producers like Metro Boomin, TTM88 and Zaytoven and much more. Their worked featured artists like Rich Homie, Meek Mill, Machine Gun Kelly, and Quan. They dropped their next mixtape No Label 2. This work was named by Complex Magazine as the best album of 2014.
In July 2015, the trio dropped their debut studio album named Yung Rich Nation. The music in the album was influenced by Trap and hip hop. Over 14,000 units of the album were sold in the first week. It climbed the spot of number 17 on Billboard Top 200. The trio went on a Run Rich Nation Tour with OG Maco to promote the album. In October 2015, they dropped their newest single ‘Bad and Boujee.’ The music video featured artists like Travis Scott and OG Maco. On YouTube, the video has received over 410 million views and was certified as four times platinum by RIAA.
Offset has performed a lot over the years. They are right now on tour till the October 17th, 2017. Migos has performed in stages across Europe including Milan, Paris, and Luzern. Outside Migos, Offset has collaborated with many other artists for works like ‘Large Bag,’ ‘Life Line,’ ‘Water Leak,’ ‘Headlock,’ ‘Big Money,’ ‘No Complaints’ and ‘Know Bout Me.’
In 2016, Offset made a guest appearance in Atlanta, a comedy drama starring Keith Stanfield, Zazie Beetz, Donald Grover and Brian Tyree Henry.
Personal Life
Offset is not married, but his dating history is quite public. He has dated Takala, Alexis Skyy, and Amber Rose. He is currently dating Cardi B, a fellow artist. The rapper has two children, a daughter, and a son. He caused quite a media stir when he got two women pregnant around the same time.
In May 2015, Offset was charged for battery and stirring riot with another inmate while he was in custody. Offset was denied the bond based on his pre-existing criminal records. The other two Migos members were denied bonds as well. After eight months of custody, Offset got a release in December 2015 after he accepted the Alford plea deal. The drug, gun, and gang charges were dropped with a fine of $1,000, five years of probation and eviction from Effingham, Jenkins, Bulloch, and Screven counties. In March 2016, Offset was again arrested for suspended license while driving. However, this charge was dropped without any filing.
